Can anyone explain the benefits of using a Rune Chopper?

I've heard that it has really good damage potential if you can keep the MP refreshed, but I can't see how it can be that fantastic if there is a cap on haste gear, and WAR can't reach that cap unless a Sparth is equipped instead.

I cant see any way possible that it can beat a Perdu axe, assuming Fort torque, 8/8 GA merits, Hasso, Haste and dual marches. The difference in damage ratings just seems to great to overcome.

if the amount of haste you're wearing is over the cap then why would you want to do something stupid like keep it on?
Just put something with rawr stats, acc, atk, aka whatever is best so that your total gear haste amount is 25~26% instead.

To be fair it is hard to find people above PSC to help with assaults if you don't have a static due to people above psc almost always having a static.
The ISP can be explained away if the person has gotten thier job almost done or done with meriting and/or does ISNM alot.
48kIS means i screwed myself out of 18 ISNM uncapped this morning and with a 1/5ish drop rate on khroma ore alone that means that this morning when I decided to spend my IS for the hell of it I may lost a fairly high chance at 1~1.4mil with my current server price.

It's a silly way for Scholars to score some haste...!

(I miss full haste on WHM and then only having half of it on SCH...)

My point was that whether or not Rune Chopper is good should not be judged solely upon whether or not it outparses Perdu.

could get 5 easy ranks ups doing NI isle (1-100 then 5 repeats at floors 20/40/60/80/100). As far as sch putting it on and engaging for 3 mp a drain i can only think of a handful of times it worthwhile and most of those involve using a buff (but at that point i can chose to spend a charge and automatically cap its recast). As for melee its probably only only good for a cheap war or drk zerg weapon till you get better gear/weapons.

Some people seem to like Rune Chopper for Salvage boss fights (with a Strange Juice to cover the MP drain), I guess to cap haste for utsu recast?

The assaults aren't very hard (except for Escort Professor Retard and that one mamool that flees), but finding people to do them is. I got first lieutenant done but shouting for an hour+ a good bit of the time is a bit tiring...

I can see the point in this if you're tanking Chariots or something that you really want capped recasts on, but just don't have the jobs/gear to do that without it.

Rune Chopper will easily out damage almost any GAX if you are receiving haste and marchs. The exception is if you already have a very HQ haste build. The hard part is keeping it active. It kicks a huge amount of ass but is truly situational gear. Seriously I bet if you only had 16% haste gear and receiving haste/marchs a Rune Chopper would probably outdo a Bravura.

    This I very highly doubt.

Yea, ppl who automatically think that perdu will outparse Rune Chopper on a War is not understanding the concept of haste. As a warrior, you are never going to cap gear haste, and as a warrior, you are never going to reach 80% haste cap, so any reasonable amount of haste is helpful til you cap, point is if it is worth it.

The weapon drains 3 MP per tick, however, the latent will trigger with just 1 MP (if you have 3 MP, it will drain 3, if you have 1 MP only it will drain 1 but it will still give you the haste). I believe someone did a test on sanction refresh, and noted that since sanction refresh is less than 1 MP per tick (the time between each tick is longer than the rate RC drops your MP), therefore you will only receive the 9% haste half the time. Meaning it is pretty much a 4.5% haste weapon without rdm refreshing you. Comparing to Perdu, it is 4.5% haste vs 8 base damage and 15 attack (both got 5 accuracy). If you are meriting in high haste support situation, this will probably destroy Perdu.

In 30 sec, under 70% haste and under 65.5% haste is about 10.5 vs 11.9 hits, a more than 14% increase in swing speed. 8 base damage is only a 9% increase from 88 base damage, and 15 attack is good but no where near a 5% increase in total output. So you see in term of math, there is a reason to use Rune Chopper over Perdu even without rdm refresh. However, how it perform in realistic situation will require more parse result. It is far from a cheap warrior weapon.

And yea, this used to be one of the best zerg weapons for drk, but no more.

    Edited for some error

An active Runechopper is nothing to spit on. Especially if you are a very casual or new WAR and don´t have access yet to the advanced Haste goodies.

I had to RL friends join the game with the Xbox release. One leveled WAR and the other RDM. I told the WAR to get a Runechopper and the RDM to keep him refreshed. So even with hobo haste gear (NQ dusk feet, NQ dusk hands, Turban and Chopper) she would have 19% Haste and would parse around 40% in every of their (noob) LS merit PT they made.

Now she finally got a Swiftbelt (they don´t do Sky beyond Genbu) and has 23% Haste. Chopper really makes or breaks her game at this point.

I have to confess my total amount of assaults done is very few but I just now got to the rank to be able to purchase a Perdu Great Axe because all I did for the longest time was Nyzul Isle.

It was a slow process but it did add up after awhile.
