There is this video my friend linked me on nico, where this japanese guy point out the set of melody that a lot of popular songs from the 1980s-present share in common. It was the similar melody to that of never gonna give you up iirc.

I'll have to wait for my friend to come back later since I don't know the tag for searching it on nico, but I'll post the link here then.

I was forced to listen to pop radio about a week ago.

9 out of the 10 songs they played over the course of about 6 hours I was able to identify as having taken their melody/structure from 80s songs, or earlier.

Next time you hear that new britney spears song, ask yourself if it doesn't sound like Happy Together.
