Side Attacking

So I've been giving my Sea Monk the command "Give 'em a little more bite", hoping to make it into a side-attacker. It pretty much always listens now, but for whatever reason he never side attacks. He's level 30, somewhat wild and very aggressive, uses Tentacle as pretty much his only TP move (though he did Whirlwind once which was pretty crappy). Am I doing something wrong?
