Bard Song Choice

Recently in pts when leveling my bard 60+ I've been getting epic whine from melees when I give them madrigal + march, even when we have a ninja tank.

They complaing cos they want minuet isntead of march...

now surely 10% ish haste from march is waaaay better than 50~ attk from minuet? not to mention the benefits the tanks get from march...

So am I right in sticknig to my guns, and giving madrigal and march? or should i give ni and do mad+min?

I went the Min/Mad route when I leveled Brd and didn't touch March until merits (this was pre Colibri)

Lurkers/Infiltrators/Skoffins are probably the only xp mobs I'll bother using any sort of Accuracy buff (Mad/Hunters)

Depends on food, I'm sure. If they've got sushi, better Minuet/March. Even Mithkabobs give more attack than Minuet, at least until it's merited, so Madrigal/March is a fine choice, especially for lolibri.

I just can't get over how some people think that mad/min is the best when you can eat food to buff ether of those but haste isn't so easy to buff.

Colibri are pretty evasive, and with food stealing they would probably be spamming kabobs. Mad/Minuet is generally superior for DoT at this level before alot of melees get access to larges amounts of haste gear.

Who the hell do you level with? I can't get pickup people to spam kabobs at Nyzul, let alone the Leypoint.

I'm picky too, but I had a habit of having people flat-out lie to me about it.

Idk about mid lvs but at 75, I refuse to do colibri unless all DD bring food. Its like Mamools w/ Food > colibri w/o. ANd if i notice someone not eating I'll ask the leader to rep them and if they say no I just use my cudgel and drop pt.

Eh, 3-4 stacks of food is my limit. Usually the first stack of food is coeurl subs cuz I like getting in a good mood for my merit party and setting a good tone.

If I go through any more than that, it usually means something is wrong with the party and I could stand gimping my damage a little anyways to avoid getting tickled relentlessly. Nothing's a bigger bitch than still having hate after other DD's WS even though I haven't.

Yeah cause like all of us can afford a ton of gil for stacks of food right? Seriously, not everyone is rich like you, most of us are pretty poor, and even 4k stacks of kabobs add up fast. I personally don't see the point of spamming food on colibris.

Then merit on mamools? You don't have to be rich to have mithkabobs. Go do an ISNM and even if you didn't get shit on your orders, you'd get 10k just from the 2k per chest open. If you honestly can't find a way to make enough money to bring a couple stacks of mith kabobs on colibri, then you should quit not only ffxi, but any mmo, really.

Alternatively, there is mamools. Mamools with food > colibri w/o.

I know people aren't all rich. I'm not asking you to spam red curry, or even coeurl sub. Its fucking cheap as smith kabobs.

Even I stopped bringing them to my parties. I usually have hate 70% of the time, seeing snatch morsel 3-4 times a fight with all the hate on me turned me off that. After a while I limited myself to 1 mith per fight , and then when I became involuntary tank, I just stopped altogether. I do great dmg anyway as it is , then again my situation is biased as I have a relic.

I usually limit myself to 1 kabob per fight.. because one I take hate it's usually on me till it's dead. I'll go through 2~ stacks of meatkabobs in an hours pt @Colibri.

10k(gil)/hr is more than I'd even be spending on good food @Mamools though.. but the ease of coli exp is just so inviting that I'm willing to spend a bit more lol.


As for my bard.. even if I'm /nin, pulling and doing 2 ballads for the mage.. I find time to pianissimo the ninja with a quick March after Minuet -> Madrigal.

I would normally throw up Min/March and gauge how fast we were killing and chains for a about 30min and then swap it up. If they stayed about the same I would stick with Min/March for faster recast for our NIN. If it was obvious one way or the other I went with the more obvious one. For Colibri I always used Min/Mad. Never partied with anyone I didn't know when I was leveling BRD, so everyone always had sushi for the most part.
