    Buying a new wireless router

    Hi guys.

I was just looking for some opnions on some wireless routers.

The one that I have now (Linksys WRT54G) seems to be giving me and my family a bunch of problems. Often, we wille experience random disconeccts on our individual computers. Obviously, this makes playing FFXI, or doing anything important on the computer really difficult.

    So I was just wondering
    a) if there was any way to fix this?
    or
    b) what the most reliable wireless routers are

Three computers would be connecting to it constantly with one of them playing FFXI.

    Thanks everyone.

I have that same router and the pre-installed firmware isn't too great. I had too many problems with it as well. I flashed it with dd-wrt and haven't had a problem since.

Also, do you happen to have a PS3 (noticed your sig) connected on the same network? The media sharing kinda messes with the connection that causes disconnects just like you're explaining. Try disabling that and see if it helps, if not try disabling upnp in the router as well.

    yeah upnp is disabled
i do have a ps3 but most of the time it is inactive so that shouldn't affect anything when i am playing ffxi right?

my laptop as well, i had them on all simultaneously as well as people using my wifi for their phones during a house party and had no disconnects, compared to my previous linksys WRT160N, whereas when I logged onto XBL my PS3 would say network connectivity lost. or my netgear that would throttle the bandwith more than necessary(both the linksys and the netgear's ports and all settings were correct), i'm quite pleased with the DIR-625.

Figured I would post in this instead of making a new topic.

I have a Mac and was kinda wondering if anyone has any experience with the Time Capsule wireless router/hardrive. Was interested in getting one since it has 1tb of storage and doubles as a modem, along with wireless printing, blah blah blah. Anyone own one and/or like it?

If your router is rebooting randomly it might be the awesome glitch I had with my old router that is hitting lots of older routers if you have SP3. Sadly since mine was an older model Linksys they didn't have plans to update the firmware so I ended up trashing it for a new one. :/

I'm looking to upgrade my router/adapter set atm and it seems this thing about Linksys equipment constantly disconnecting is a major problem.. Kinda weird because I bought a Linksys adapter specifically because someone told me they were better than Netgear and D-Link..

Ah well in any case I'm looking to upgrade to Wifi-N and try to maximize my already pathetic bandwidth.. Can anyone recommend a good router/adapter pair?

I fucking love my new D-Link DIR-655; has tons of gaming options and it's Wireless N.
