Current appropriate tip rates on high-end craftables?

I realize it is largely subjective. Just trying to more or less survey what you would tip / expect to be tipped for having tier 0, expensive synths made, assuming an independent crafter (i.e. someone not in your own LS and not a close buddy) and non prior agreement (i.e. the independent crafter will just tell you "whatever you feel is fair" if you ask what s/he wants as compensation). Point is to try and get a rough consensus on appropriate tip so neither party feels ripped off. Don't really care about cheaper stuff (e.g. Haub +1) or tier 1 stuff, mainly looking for expensive tier 0s that tend to go for ridiculous prices. Examples being:

    - Dusk Gloves +1
    - Hades Sainti +1
    - Kyudogi +1
    - Sheihk Manteel
    - Mahatma Cape
    - Cursed Hauberk +1

    Dusk Gloves +1 1M+
    Hades Sainti +1 300k+
    Kyudogi +1 2M+
    Sheihk Manteel 1M+
    Mahatma Cape 1M+
Cursed Hauberk +1 Nothing, you're never going to get one. or 2m+

Or, have someone craft a nq and i can photoshop it for you to look like a +1 for free!

it depends on what item is about and how many times i tryed it.

i usual take 25%-50% of the profit and if i could use it or its worth something to me.

if someone comes to me for lets say cursed hauberk (what i would do right now cause i promised a friend, that my first hq of this will be his) and i hq it, i would take about 15m for the hq, thats like 50%. if that someone will come to me again and again and always asked me to craft it and then the 50th synth will go hq, i would take 5-10m cause he had a big loss till that.

if i craft useless items who dont make any sence i would do it for free, hq or not.

if i craft stuff for friends/linkshell i do it for free, only thing i want is that they keep my sig under it and if the day comes where they gonna sell it, i want 50% of the profit. i dont see why other people should make money with my skill and i get nothing .

For kyudodo at least 2M and for mahatma cape I'd want 3M minimum since that is a stupidly rare item

If it's not a friend/LS person, I've taken to the "if I HQ it, I'll replace it with a NQ" idea, so I can't give you a good idea on figures.

However, before I started doing that, I had been attempting to HQ a Cerberus Mantle for some HNM LS. I did maybe 20 synths for them over a few months. The deal had been if I HQed it, they'd pay me a NQ mantle. I don't remember how much a NQ had been worth at the time, but it was a good amount of cash. (And they paid me 100K? per synth attempt anyway.) I never did HQ one, unfortunately.

I was gonna make a comment on how retarded that tipping chart is, then I noticed the poster and decided it wasn't worth my time.

I found a use for having alchemy as my one capped sub on cloth today. Traveled all the way to sandy at cost to myself (between chocobo and having to pay 300g to get back Whitegate) to make a shouter 5 green almirahs. No tip

On the plus side, I did remember to lay out the "I break it, too bad" policy first

You can't set a price on the "Tip Amount" as been shown in the player warning forum your BEST and at this point probably ONLY choice to ensure you get some sort of payment for HQing something for someone whose mats weren't yours is working it out beforehand.

My favorite is if it is a highly priced item: I keep it and give you NQ or you give me 50% of the regular sale price.

To expect to be tipped without a clearly stated condition is silly and any crafter worth a salt here knows this.

Unless they're actively trying for HQ,I craft in my MH that way if i HQ the person doesn't have to know. then i can buy the NQ off the AH and give it to them

Problem there is you can lose out if you fail.
I think there's a balance crafters need to strike. If you don't assume full responsibility for a fail, you can't assume full responsibility for a HQ. But also, a fail is more likely than a HQ. It's difficult.

    i personally agree with this:

Player: hay can you craft this for me i need it
    Crafter: K
Crafter: if i hq ill sell and buy you a NQ

Lets say this was dusk gloves. Player spends like 300k on mats and you HQ. Player gets greedy and says omfg those were my mats so they're my gloves gib gib gib. Well they were the player's mats which cost 300k or so. But it was the crafter's craft that made them which cost between 1-5mil.

So in any case I see it necessary to say I want HQ if i hq if they're just randomly asking for a synth.

If they're asking you to synth multiple times for the sole purpose of HQing I think a %age of the HQ sell value should be given to the crafter. Also with you own judgement deduct however much value you'll receive if the player lost a lot of gil trying to HQ.\

edit: also it is VERY wise of the crafter to write down the exact time, date and location of where you made this agreement to take a payment for any HQ. That way you can provide GMs with a valid source of the agreement.

    edit2: i don't craft

I do the same system as Thistle, but slight change. If it's a good friend/cool LS member I'll craft with a small tip in place for HQ. For anyone else I'll do the sell and split routine. Usually never any arguments, and I popped my Dalm -1 that way(back in the day)... so both of us made a drama free 18M a piece, and I didn't have to risk anything.

After being screwed sevral times by people I crafted for, who tipped me poorly and made profit from my HQs behind my back, I decided to only take crafting requests from friends and people I know and trust.

The main effect is I have never been screwed since that day, but also, I have random people come to me and offer pretty good deals in case I HQ their synths : I usually get to keep some materials, and/or a flat gil amount (usually in the 100-200-300k for a batch of Elemental staves, Shura pants or body).

for a good tier one synth where NQ's sell well for a decent price I'd also accept any NQ results as a tip. Then I get some cash and the craftee doesn't have to worry about selling them. I do that to other crafters if I'm asking them to spam something for me. In the least they can go say hello to the NPC

(Hope to get someone to agree to that when I'm T1 on Noble's)

I don't take tips and I only craft for the LS or friends as long as its for personal use. If it comes out HQ, its their fortune not mine.

Then again I'm alchemy and the only thing I've been commissioned to craft are Htk eye clusters so meh.

I charge 10% of AH fee for HQ's as NQ synths are free. I'm considering raising it to 15-20% cuz 10% seems low for HQing a pair of Dusk Gloves +1.

I don't charge for NQ at all, unless it's a large quantity of items.

For HQ, I discuss with the person first the terms of the synth and go from there. Generally, if I don't know the person at all, it's one of three options:

    1. HQ fee is 20% of AH cost.
    2. Replace HQ with NQ
    3. I sell and split the item 50/50.

I've had all three situations occur, and everything has worked out for me for the most part. People who don't like the terms take their business elsewhere. I also let them know if it's a break, I won't be reimbursing them for materials.

The only people who have ever asked me to craft anything are close friends, so I've never charge at all.

How often are people asking you to craft things for them?
