ok im looking to see what i need to upgrade. im getting really bad Fps here i tryed overclocking Cpu which i got from 2.20Ghz to 2.80 ghz stable and overclock my Gpu also. but nothing seems to work i updated all Video card Drivers but still shitty Fps in Wg i get like 24-27 fps at AH area i get like 14-24 fps. maybe its me that being picky since im coming from ps2 platform which im use to gameplay sooo smooth and fast no what area im in even DA with a full house .. im on ps3 atm since i did the partition for it and allowing me toplay on ps3 still runs smooth and fast but i want that PC experiance since i never really got into it. these are my specs i am plannng to add more Ram since im currently at 2GB i am going for 4GB and i am going to toss this Video card. dont get me wrong the video card is awsome when it come to Resolution looks sooo ownage but i just cant meet that Fps with it i had to lower resolution in order to get the Fps im talking about and well i rather play ps2 version if i have to do all that.
    so these are my specs:
    AMD64 X2 4200+ Dual Core Processor
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2-800
Western Digital 250GB SATA-II Hard Drive

i dont know about the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, but FFXI and NVIDIA dont like each other at all. I have a 7400 that has had a known issue to freeze the screen whenever anyone readies sunburst or starburst in game. This has been a known issue since the card and the game first met. Although some people claim it had something to do with windower I was having the issue on this computer with no windower. i had never downloaded it on this computer cause its vista qq

    that sucks to hear ; ; not looking good ; ;
i been reading about ppl with steady 28-29 fps in almost all areas. i would care about Dynamis Fps because even on ps2 it tends to lag a bit not to much just a little bit for me. i think i get better fps on ps3 with a full house dyna run then i do at WG on my pc ; ; and thats sad . . . .

pretty sure the crossfire isn't doing much if anything for ffxi, my guess is you want to grab the fastest processor (mhz wise even if its dual core) you can afford to stick in that motherboard

FFXI doesn't utilize dual core processors.

I have a Geforce 8600 GT OC'd and I get pretty much 27+ FPS with full effects on even in wg. I run my game with 1024x1024 Background and 1024x768 overlay. I have bump mapping enabled (I know I've read about people saying disable this, but turning this on with a nvidia card has enabled me to get 27+ FPS with full effects on for some reason). I have Texture Compression set to High, and compressed maps enabled. MipMaps at 3.

    Hope this helps.

As you can see by the screenshot I just took, the graphics are still fairly appealing to the eye and FPS are constant (noted in top left hand corner).

Your processor is holding you back. Upgrading a video card will do very little for you unless you want to up the background resolution to the highest possible levels but you'll still get lag from character models.

I have a Geforce 8500 GT, but my FPS's aren't as good as yours in whitegate with those modes =( what OS are you running? what drivers for your card, DirectX9 i assume, right? What CPU?

right but you choices currently are dual or quad core

furthermore graphics drivers take advantage to some extent of multiple cores

what about shadows? do you have them disabled? With my machine I can run 29FPS 98+% of the time (the occasional 200 person all trying to kill a campaign boss will drop me down to 24-25 for a few seconds during AOE moves)... but if I turn shadows up it drops to 25~ just with characters displayed near AH

also you said you overclocked, but what about cooling? I've never used that chip, but have a few friends that had substantial heat issues with it. are you running something to monitor cpu temps?

I'm running a E8500 Dual Core 3.17ghz and 9800 GTX+ and I am still getting retarded FPS slowdown in Whitegate. It's the same amount of graphical lag as my old machine but this is with my graphics turned up all the way this time. Still, even with my new machine I thought I wouldn't be lagging so bad in Whitegate but I still find it necessary to turn off shadows, weather, etc.

Overlay is 1680x1050 with 2048x2048 background. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong =(

That card just hates FFXI, plain and simple. I get those kinds of FPS drops (i.e. 24-25) even with a single alliance onscreen.
