The first rule about SMN burns is we do not talk about SMN burns.
The first rule about SMN burns is we do not talk about SMN burns.
Wish people would quit talking about it before SE decides to nerf the shit.
And the thread title couldn't be any more inconspicuous! >_>
SE knows, as stated before. Will they change anything? I highly doubt it. In order for them to change this, they would be changing the whole aspect how of SMN's two hour works. Which would make a lot of the SMN community very unhappy.
If people think SE does not know about SMN burns, then said people are pretty out of the loop.
On a side note, be careful with who's in the zone where you're burning. GMs have been called on SMN burns before and it does constitute zone monopolization. People have been jailed.
Tomorrow....

Jan. 27, 2009 03:00 [PST] From: FINAL FANTASY XI
Handling Misconduct (Jan. 27)
In January 2009, we discovered an issue that allowed players to gain experience points by using the Summoner ability Astral flow to kill a large group of monsters.
The issue was not yet fixed, but the areas where this takes place are being watched carefully. We have discovered that players are also using the Corsair ability Wild Card to make this possible more often.
As a result of the investigation, approximately 1 player was temporarily suspended based on the evidence gathered. Approximately 1500 players who committed more serious misconduct had their accounts banned.
We are working hard to ensure that these kinds of issues do not occur again in FINAL FANTASY XI. However, if you discover any problems with the game system, please submit a GM call or fill out the feedback e-mail form to report the problems to us, instead of exploiting or spreading the issue.
We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Remember when BLMs could get nigh-infinite chains off Aern pets in Sea?
Folks said "SE made it like that, so it's how the game was intended."
Remember what SE did shortly after folks started posting screenshots of chain# 400+ and talking about how it was done all over forums?
Patched in 5 pets max.
Yeah.
Never said it was an exploit.
That doesn't mean SE doesn't like it.
Damn near everytime the playerbase gets a leg-up on something, SE kicks us in the nuts with a steel-toed boot.
It does mean that even though they might nerf it, they aren't likely to ban people over it.
Not worried about banning, I'm worried about nerfing!
Knowing SE, they'd do something like put a limit on the number of chains you can get within a certain period of time (ie. no more than chain# 10 within 30 seconds, etc.) or something stupid.
Oh snaps I just gave them an idea.
Pfft. Forget nerfing. I demand a free Claustrum for ingenuity.
Yeah they'll never nerf this. Ask any old school RNG.
I think this thread should be deleted. ^^
Knowing SE's track record for nerfing anything that is too good, why would you tell people how to do this? Our group went out and figured out how to get this done, no one told us how. I think everyone else would do well to do similar investigations. It's not like it is hard to do.
For those who think this is wrong or a bannable offense, I have already asked 3 separate GMs, and the gist of it is, they are aware of it and it currently is not against TOS.
People have been able to do this since the Summoner job was available, it was just harder before the level sync because finding 3 or 4 SMNs that are the same level is slim. So regardless, if SE wanted to nerf this it would have been years ago. There will be no Astral Flow nerf. So just calm down.
I posted a video, yes. But it was mostly for us. I didn't think many people visited the website I linked it from. Nevertheless, it just shows us doing it, but does not explain how to do it.
150+ in Korroloka is easy. The lag is not crazy either.
Famous last words. People said the same things about duping in Nyzul and Salvage. Though I seriously doubt SE will start banning people for this shit, I'll try to keep my mouth shut and reserve judgment. There will be no Astral Flow nerf. So just calm down.
