Lol rail shootan.
That article has successfully sparked my interest in this game. There are plenty of excellent rail shooters out there ("Panzer Dragoon," "Sin and Punishment," et cetera), while some of the existing Wii efforts -- like "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles" -- were a lot of fun. I believe they're capable of delivering on the quality they promise, so now, all that remains to be seen is whether they really do.
Rail shooters aren't an Approved Genre for Hardcore Gamers so I'm obviously not interested.
I suppose it is better than a massively toned down port like what we're seeing with Dead Rising. But I've yet to see one rail shooter have a "A mature and thought provoking story", "Incredible mood and sound", "A horrific experience set in visually stunning environments" OR "Unique, terrifying, and satisfying enemies, weapons and bosses", all of which they're saying they've retained from the original Dead Space. I will be thoroughly impressed if they manage to accomplish even one of those things, but I'm sure the game will be fun for a little while regardless of if they accomplish it. I just find it a strange direction to take the series. Finding rail shooters largely boring in single player too doesn't really help my opinion though. I think the only ones I've actually enjoyed for more than 30 minutes in single player are Panzer Dragoon Orta and Sin & Punishment, though I'll admit I haven't played much of the genre.
I don't think there's ever been a on-the-rails shooter that was ever scary. When you have that much control over your accuracy it's hard to be scared. I doubt the game will be anything like the PS3/360 version, but it might be fun either way. At least the Wii is good with shooters like that.
Well when you don't have control over your character the only way they can really scare you is having stuff jump out at you/onto the screen, but if you honestly go into any horror/"scary" game and don't expect enemies to be jumping out at you at every corner/wall you have to be totally oblivious.
