New RNC Chairman Plans an "Off The Hook" Hip-Hop Makeover of the GOP

Newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele plans an “off the hook” public relations offensive to attract younger voters, especially blacks and Hispanics, by applying the party's principles to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”

The RNC's first black chairman will “surprise everyone” when updating the party's image using the Internet and advertisements on radio, on television and in print, he told The Washington Times.

Having been elected to the job that the Bush White House and its political guru, Karl Rove, once denied him, Mr. Steele is running the show his way. To those who claimed he can't make the trains run on time, he has this message: “Stuff it.”

He stiff-armed an attempt to get him to elaborate on his public relations effort, saying he would be an idiot to give his opponents too much information, but indicated the Republican Party needs to break out of being considered a regional party.

    {SNIP}
Under Mr. Steele's helm, the “old” may seem inappropriate in the Grand Old Party's affectionate nickname. He said he is putting a new public relations team into place to update the party's image.

“It will be avant garde, technically,” he said. “It will come to table with things that will surprise everyone - off the hook.”

    Does that mean cutting-edge?

    “I don't do 'cutting-edge,' “ he said. “That's what Democrats are doing. We're going beyond cutting-edge.”
Washington Times - Steele: GOP needs 'hip-hop' makeover

Ok, this is just hysterical. I mean, they have an image problem with a lot of people, but come on

    Remember MC Rove and weep

Then Chairman Steele introduced the new GOP Mascot, Poochie.

I pray to whatever cosmic force may exist that the first commercial for the new GOP features fried chicken and watermelon. Oh, and 1980s hip-hop slang.

Im really hoping this is more tell than show...cause I do have high hopes for what Steele can do for the party as a whole.

However, this "new campaign" is really the problem many conservatives think we've had with the elections since 2006. We shouldnt be tailoring messages specifically to groups of people, we should simply be making our points that the party and base traditionally stand for, sans as much distortion as as straight as possible, and we won't need to worry about if it reaches hispanic, or black, or teen voters. Itll reach voters period.

Thats what Axelrod and Obama did so well during the election as a whole, he appealed to everyone through his speeches and simplistic HOPE messages. While we were stuck trying to grab the women vote, or the hispanic vote, etc etc.

tl;dr Right idea. Wrong execution. (punn not intended)

Holyshit, the GOP is much more misguided than I previously thought. It's almost safe to say that obama will have his second term for sure.

That would be so much win lol. They could hire Fuzzy Zeller to write their speeches, he has such a way with sensitive topics.

When will Republicans learn that maybe it's the fact that they say one thing (small government, low taxes, respect for liberty...) and do another (big spending, intruding on personal liberty...) that makes it hard for anyone to vote for them?

I think perhaps it's the fault of most people for not understanding that there's a double connotation to liberty, and that is that liberty is, from a classical point of view and from a property owner's point of view, is the right to own private property, and beyond that nothing else is necessary. At least that's what the framers of the Constitution thought.

edit: and by private property, the most important thing is capital. According to them, liberty is just free market, and anything aside from that is just an addition.

edit: in other words, small government, less taxes, and liberty, depending on who you ask can also mean, privatization, lower taxes for the rich, and free markets. All of which seems pretty modern conservative to me (classical liberal). I mean that they are doing all of that.
