    RDM Fire resist

I kinda wanna try something a little new with my job so I'm starting to get into tanking a bit. I know what to get for general enmity and haste shit, but for tia fire resist I don't know what to prioritize. I'm thinking I need more enmity than a normal pld because, well, I'm a rdm.
    How good is mdb?
what should my target fire resist be?

so far, I'm thinking along these lines

    tips? suggestions?

tbh, not really looking for fulltime tanking, just for like 15-20 min at a time while plds get there or w/e (tia likes to pop early mornin), and then just support tanking after that

Honestly for fire resist to be worth it you really need to go all out and break the upper tier, I think it's 315? Or somewhere around 130ish in gear.

Swap in these (in addition to what you have already)
    Tarasque Mitts +1
    2x Triumph Earring
    Scorpion Breastplate
    Crimson/Blood Cuisses
    Green Ribbon+1/Black Ribbon
    Neptune's Staff

    its not a linear resist?
I was hoping to take like ~75 per hit from fireballs

guess i need to go all out with my gils ;(

I haven't seen any really good tests on this, but to my knowledge Tiamat's fireballs work just like spells. They're resisted 1/2 | 1/4 | 1/8 | 1/16, and fire resistance appears to jump dramatically at different tiers. I remember people reporting ~320 was an apparent cap on Tiamat, whereas ~200-something was only a ~50% resist rate. Don't quote me on that though.

320 total with carol and barfire and your set, enmity is not a big deal at all in resist set, add it if you find yourself with spare slots but it wont make or break you. If you get roared switch to enmity set that you would use on any other mob, you wont be getting hit till you re-cap hate(except from AoE) anyway.

Swap those eris for triumph or ruby, and at least bring along a resist headpiece to swap in for chapeau if you feel you need it.

Don't bother with a half-assed set, you can get away with 290 or 300 on tiamat, any less and you would be better off with MDB and -magic dmg%. If your tanking KS99 wyrm on RDM your already doing something wrong, but i found the resist rate to be pretty much the same. Ouryu you can get away with quite a bit less total resist. Jorm is pretty lame, the para seems to land a lot regardless of total resist, recommend sticking with conventional -magic set for that.

Resist sets are never going to break the bank. Most of what falls under 'going all out' will run you 50k total, and the white box crap doesn't even remotely make a difference. By the time you start adding on Trumph Earrings +1, you already broken the tier you needed to.

    What I was thinking

A little over the supposed 320 cap (15 or so with full support), so you can probably swap in some enmity or refresh depending on what you are needing.

It doesn't matter if crimson makes you intimidated by Tia or not, there is very little you need to do while she's fireballing you, and when you do need to cast something you should probably be swapping gear anyways.

Only reason i ask is because i was told not to use crimson greaves in an earth build for ouryu, so wyrms wont intimidate is i used crimson?

I think they will, after all DRGs can intimidate you if you're wearing Crimson, but just swap it out to use an action, it's not like you're meleeing them in those situation so I don't see it as a problem.

DRGS only intimidate crimson wearers because of Dragon Killer effect. Dragons don't have Dragon killer, so it should be fine.

DRGs can intimidate you because they have dragon killer trait, crimson makes you count as a dragon. Through mob family interaction, all demon mobs can intimidate you as well as all dragoon mobs because of trait.. but not dragon mobs.

When I actually have the time to bring with me my fire res set, this is what I use:

Neptune's Staff, Green Ribbon +1, Jeweled Collar, Ruby Earring, Triumph Earring, Scorpion Breastplate, Coral Fng. Gnt. +1, Ruby Ring, Malflame Ring, Cerb. Mantle +1, Water Belt, Blood Cuisses, Power Sandals

Most of the times though, it pops when i'm not there camping so I just use the magic dmg- set I always have with me (coral +1, mermans x4, etc) and with that set + phalanx his air attacks do 120~125. I just keep casting Stoneskin whenever it's ready, and I'm able to mantain my CE capped that way, so I stopped bothering with fire res, it just makes tanking a little more MP intensive due to the repetitive use of Dispel.

I only bother with enmity gear when its on ground, your comment about needing enmity gear cause you aren't a PLD doesn't make sense, RDM Hate >>> PLD Hate.

Your whole post sounds like you think RDM can't tank this and can only hold till the PLDs come rescue you; personally I have solo tanked this (manaburn) with 0 draw ins and 0 deaths and without sleeping on ground.

If you run low on inv space or something, enfeebling torque only has 3 less resist than bubu gorget or jeweled collar
