    PLD/DNC Supertanking

My shell did Medusa the other day, I was designated the supertank for the adds. I decided to try out pld/dnc based on my experience with supertanking two weeks prior with DM. As /war /blu /rdm supertank you sit on ALOT of TP. It's just there minding it's own business. Sure it's nice to use for chivalry, every 12 mins or so. My experience with PLD/DNC on Medusa adds was very surprising. Takes some of the boring out of Supertanking, it utilizes the shit ton of TP you get from four mobs wailing at you with shield mastery, it made it much easier for the mages(not that it was hard for the mages in the first place). I just used waltz II whenever I needed to top off, I didn't need to use it everytime it was up. There was no need to spam it really.

Also, Medusa's adds do use hypnotic sway which induces the Amnesia effect. This in no way made /dnc useless, it's just 30 seconds of using your own mp. That is, if you can get a cure off in that 30 seconds with four mobs wailing at you.

I don't have Blu unlocked I think, and I know Arc's is only 14, but we both have /Dnc since I showed him some of the silly shit it can do.

I think that's a genius idea honestly, and will definitely be using it in any situation like this, as it's more fun (I can't see how /Blu could appeal, sorry), and more useful for a mixed supertanking/normal tanking fight, just as an example PM 6-4, where you supertank to start, and swap to normal tanking.

Max™, that reminds me of an offhand conversation which sprung up today about how PMs weren't really balanced for later job abilities. Easiest example is BLU's Head Butt, which Stun immune monsters get hit with and it "cheapens" the Airship fight. Supertanking the mammets in PM 2-5 was fine waybackwhen with PLD/WAR and has to be much safer /DNC. Then again, my party straight-tanked the final PM boss and won handily before ToAU was released. /shrug/ But it does add some new tactics for helping friends or repeating for fun.

I guess the TP→HP conversion rate with /DNC is fairly well known using a Soboro Samurai ("Kabuki Dancer") but it hadn't occurred to me the common PLD/DNC in Campaign could be extended to fights like this.

dangerous speculation: Ruke supertanked lamps during the BtL PW fight on SAM/(nin?), another new role for PLD/DNC? Might be riding the Waltz timer continually.

180~ Hp every 7~8 Seconds for TP you aren't using anyways is a lot.

Just make a macro to /waltz, /wait 7~7.5~8, /waltz, I did it while trying to kill skillups with a bajillion robbers on me.

35 TP = 180 Hp works great for me, and when not supertanking you can use it for cure cheating without interrupt, or hell, super cure cheats.

I use the same hp down macro button, then can just alternate hitting it, C3 up, hp dn, Cw up, hp dn, etc to fucking spam build hate.

This is very effective on WAR too, especially with retaliation.

You aren't supertanking if you're using Retaliation.

No, it's not maintanking. Er. Maintanking is the guy who's the primary tank, right? (Yes? I hope so.) Anyway.

Supertanking uses the "yellow name thingy" (it's not a glitch so far as I'm concerned) that people discovered at some point but which gained notoriety in the circles I frequent back on PM 2-5.

If Alfred has hate from five Jimminy Crickets, and all those Crickets have yellow names because they aggroed Alfred without Alfred doing anything to them, no matter how much Alfred's party casts cure on him they won't get on the Crickets' hate list so long as those names stay yellow.

I'm guessing (don't know!) that Retaliation would turn a name red when it hits.

    It's not just that.

Run by a crab in Kuftal and aggro it. Let it beat on you until you're red hp (but do nothing at all). Have a healer curebomb you with Cure IV's. See how they didn't take hate?

That's supertanking. I think it's a dumb name to describe what it is, but at least it's unique.

Yeah it lets you stick as many mobs as you want on one poor guy who, thanks to /dnc, has no trouble keeping his HP capped. But if he does have an issue, anyone can cure or cast and it won't get the attention of all those monsters. If the supertank does anything overt to the yellow mobs, though, game over.

(What I'm wondering with Ruke and the PW lamps is if they follow the rules for yellow-name mobs and can be tanked like this at all or not since PW is weird.)

No. My LS uses supertanking to do Divine Might, and the last time we did it I used Reprisal without a problem.

Surprisingly "no", reprisal spikes damage doesn't put you on hate list. It was actually said in a topic when the spell was new in exactly the same context, namely supertanking medusa adds.

Retaliation does not claim mobs, so yes you can supertank with Retaliation

You have to be engaged to retaliate, so you'd need a convenient target to draw your weapon at first.

Assuming you can do that, then you can retaliate and beat on/get TP from a ton of targets at once. I've managed to stack 6 robber crabs on top of each other by dragging them back into a pathing chokepoint to form one supermutant crab.

It doesn't claim though, that is correct, they stay yellow.
