    Faust

Sky pops are my only real source of income but lately Faust has been pissing me off to no end.

Either I don't fully understand Typhoon or SE is fucking with me.

When i'm kiting Faust around portals sometimes, rarely, generally only 1-2 times per fight he manages to strip all three shadows with typhoon along with knocking me 4ft screwing me up royally.

I check logs to see if I i might of missed a Utsusemi recast or if he managed to get a swing in just before typhoon. But not one fuckin thing, no animation of him taking an extra swing and nothing in log. Even if that was the case "always" keep running from Faust (when blitzing for me) for the very purpose that he cant get a normal hit in before WS, since he always triggers it when in range and 10' is farther then melee range.

Ive also considered if recasting Ni over old shadows is somehow not logging as a full three, but somehow but I find that unlikely.

I'm sure you can imagine how frustrating this can be after 30min of kiting him then either starting all over or kiting him weakened.

Any info be helpful, speculation also be appreciated.

Typhoon can rip multiple shadows(1-3) off depending on how many hits connect.

I think you misread original post
"I check logs to see if I might of missed a Utsusemi recast"
Means i recast Utsusemi after each bind

I edited that, yeah. But I suppose Typhoon being a 4-hit TP move(or it has double attack connecting with Typhoon?) is a possibility unless you are losing a shadow somewhere.

Well, may want to check your chat filters/log again. If it is indeed a 3-hit move(never blink tanked it to be honest) then you might be losing a shadow to a melee hit and eat a typhoon after.

Faust is just a dick. Every time I've lost to him in the past it's been due to Typhoon ripping three shadows/fresh Stoneskin and doing three-figure damage with both Phalanx and Protect IV up, followed by more Typhoons which make it almost impossible to get shadows back up before you're eating dirt.

    it's more random than anything.

after probably about a dozen solo/duos, i've never seen this happen until recently (and if it hadn't happened to me, i probably would have said you were wrong/crazy/lying <.<).

last time i tried to solo it, it actually did this twice before killing me. both times, i had 3 shadows up, and it did not hit me before typhoon. there was no hit in the log before, or after typhoon, and even if there was, the message would have been completly different if it wasn't completely absorbed by shadows. if you don't have enough shadows to block it completely, it says utsu wears off, and says how much damage you take. if you have enough shadows to block it, it says utsu wears off (unless you still have shadows left over of course), and then says X shadows absorbed the attack. in both cases where i was knocked back it only says utsu wore off, and 3 shadows absorbed the attack.

coincidentally, the one time that it happened to me was the only time i've tried it since i came to sirin, and never had any issues back on fairy, though i doubt there's any correlation there.

I only cast shadows as war/nin, wait for a double typhoon, then run up from behind Faust and get a hit in and run away. I have had either 2 or 3 shadows stripped from Typhoon, but never 3 shadows plus a hit to me, and never a melee hit, so I would guess Typhoon is a 3 hit move.

this. aoe physical tp moves absorb a semi-random amount of shadows, with each ws having a different max amount. ninjutsu skill increases the chance of taking a lower amount of shadows, but even with 0 skill, you still have a chance of getting 1 shadow taken from a ws that normally takes 3+.

Fixed. It will strip however many shadows as hits that landed had you not evaded them.

If you have 75 NIN or 75 THF, sub WHM and go feed tp to a goblin in tahrongi or something with dia until it gobbie rushes.. you'll lose all 3 shadows every time. The ninjutsu skill thing is entirely unproven to my knowledge as well.. but if it is true, it only effects aoes.

My Ninja is level 75, and last time I checked, Goblin Rush is not an area attack.

No, but it's an example of evasion not being factored into shadows lost. That aside, I've soloed faust dozens of times on RDM and tanked it just as many on nin.. unless my RDM's 200 eva skill results in the same evade rate as my NIN's 277 then there's some other factor.

Evasion is always that random. It's like how unmerited naked summoners sometimes do more damage than the merited and geared ones. Also, I have evaded Goblin Rush.

Evasion isn't 'random'. It has a 5% lower bound cap, meaning you'll see evades pretty frequently even at lower bound.. for a 3 hit ws to take 1 shadow at lower bound, chances are 1/20^2 or 1/400. If you've ever fought faust on RDM, you'd know that there's no way that's accurate.. happens a few times a fight and I certainly don't take 400 typhoons.

Eh, I've definitely seen Pecking Flurry hit 3 shadows (and not have a damage line). I've also definitely seen Parry skillups on Pecking Flurry, so I'd say that the individual hits are avoidable, in some fashion or another. I always assumed Goblin Rush was the same, but haven't actually tested.

You can parry or evade if shadows are down, but not with shadows remaining. If you have less shadows than the weaponskill, but after your shadows are gone all remaining hits are parried/guarded/shield blocked/evaded then you'll get the message:
The Greater Colibri uses Pecking Flurry but misses Failure.
You still take damage from it if you guarded or shield blocked though, you just don't have any representation in the log.. as I stated earlier, you can easily test by getting a decent amount of evasion and feeding a low accuracy mob TP. If you want to get a screenshot of pecking flurry's line saying it took 1-3 shadows, I'll gladly admit I'm wrong.
