Quick question about this card.

How much Watts would I need to run this badboy, i'm at 550w atm but its not working out so well.

How many amps does your PSU have?

400-500w on a quality PSU ^ easily.

edit: Is this a stock upgraded card? Or custom PC? If so take into consideration other things added such as fans, etc.

Wattage isn't the only factor, what are your current PSU's 12v rails like? Link to its Newegg page perhaps?

tbh, its a dell computer, not custom. This question is for a friend. I know for fact its a dell computer, his old video card died, so he bought this one to replace it.

If it is a Dell, be weary that some models the PSU can only be replaced with a custom power supply. (See Dell 410 for an example; Amazon.com: PC Power and Cooling PPCS500D Silencer 500 Dell 12V 80+ Certified Power Supply: Electronics)

And yeah, wattage doesen't matter but if its a quality brand PSU (not 20$ logisys, etc.) Its going to be 300% better than a stock manufactured one.

Okay my bad it is not a dell, Its actually a custom computer. It is 550w. Its loading up, but its reverting straight to the onboard motherboard graphics card, I tried installing the drivers but everytime I restart its not picking up the graphics card, checked hardware device's and has a little yellow caution sign next to the 9800GT card.

Uninstall the drivers for the onboard graphics

also double check the BIOS for a setting pertaining to the default graphics adapter (PCI-E) etc.

just plain out need a new card.

If you right click on the card and go to properties what message is it giving you in the center?

Is there an onboard video card that is conflicting? I would recommend checking the mfg's web site also for a possible bios update. I had flickering on my video card with messed up dots all over, and there was a specific bios update to adderss the issue. I own a different card, but the mfg was very helpful.

thats the video card at fault most likely

the 9800GT should run fine with a 550w powersupply. It can be touchy about multiple rails but this screen shot shows artifacting in a defective card (imo)
