    Dumb DVD-R Question/Creating Recovery Disc

I'm trying to create a factory recovery disk for my Acer laptop, but every time I insert a blank DVD into the optical drive, I get an error saying "Please insert a blank CD/DVD into the optical drive, then continue." I'm pretty sure the disk is blank, given that I removed the protector disk tonight, but I bought the DVD-RWs at least a year ago. Is it possible for them to have degraded, or is Acer being retarded?

You think for an electrical engineer, I'd know more about computers. :|

Dont know how old your acer laptop is but maybe the drive you have only reads dvd+r discs or it doesnt read the dvd-rws and only dvd-r? Second reason could be that you have a coaster in the pack. Did you try putting in another disc from the pack?

Laptop is only 2 years old. =\ I just tried a CD-R and that didn't work either. Tried DVD-Rs, those didn't work either.

I would assume that the program won't work with DVD-RWs, so DVD- or CD-Rs are the best media to use.

Though I somewhat doubt it will, does this help?
