Hello everyone, I am going to build a new computer based solely on FFXI. I bought a laptop and the speed is crap, graphics are very choppy and really I just want to optimize my gaming experience on FFXI in a new desktop since my old one is now outdated. If someone could just give me examples of what would probably work out best system wise I would be more than happy. I already have a nice monitor and all that stuff. Mainly I am looking at the innards such as:

Ops Sys:
Video Cards: 1

Just the important stuff really, please help me out, dont wanna waste more money @.@ Thanks a lot.

Meh, FFXI is not that intensive. There are a few threads already detailing some decent computer builds that are affordably priced. Just read down.


As for operating system, that falls under personal preference.

At this point if you're building a new system you might as well just go to Vista Home Premium x64, unless you have a copy of XP lying around.

Most new motherboards will include at least one Gigabit Ethernet connection for wired networking so you should be all set there. If you're planning to do wifi you'll need an adapter, and possibly a router.

(side note - if you do go the wifi route, MAKE SURE your adapter/router is Vista-compatible AND COMES WITH 32 AND 64-BIT DRIVERS. Safest bet is to stay away from Linksys too.. their Vista support is horrible.)

IMO, build for other stuff. Provided you use at least a semi-decent video card, FFXI should run just fine.
