360 Arcade: Duels of the Planeswalkers

Never played the card game Magic but downloaded this awhile ago and they just patched with a new expansion yesterday, pretty fun and seems like loads of FPS junkies play it oddly enough, ran into a lot of people I played CoD with.

Pretty fun with online 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 matches ranked and unranked with unlockable decks and cards.

Anyone else play? If so wanna get dirty motherfucking nerd style?

gamertag is Ze Finesse hit me up

Though I haven't played this game first hand, everything I've read about it makes it sound pretty bad: REALLY stupid AI, literally cheating AI on harder difficulties, silly customization, simplifying phases, and an annoying timer system. It's no port of Magic Online.

Though, I guess it could serve as a decent introduction to Magic the Gathering(but maybe not.)

The single player mode does suck, it's a bitch to unlock cards but you can unlock them in multi. And yes, single player AI does cheat in hard modes. Seriously seems to have all the cards it needs to unfuck itself or just annihilate you while you get manafucked.

Online is fun though when it's 3v3 or 4v4 since you generally have time to sort yourself out before shit hits the fan. Only reason worth playing is the multiplayer, which is pretty much the case with any game these days.

I would like to see more decks/cards added to the game. They don't need to make it like the actual M:TG Online game, but it would be nice if they rotated sets. I also would love to see a version that lets players who don't really play any more revert back to a set with which they are familiar. 7th edition is cool and all, but I miss Ice Age

Ice Age was nice, but I don't think Necropotence did much for metagame balance.

I'm not so sure about the AI cheating. Sometimes it seems unreal, but other times it'll get mana screwed and die. If it was going to cheat, wouldnt it cheat to get the right amount of mana when needed?

Anyways, it's a decent game. If you want to practice the fundamentals of magic against people online, it can be fun. Although if you play at a tournament level, you'll find the competition sparse and you get to watch your opponents make absolutely ridiculous mistakes.

I've been thinking of buying this for a few months now and I decided too last night.

The only card game I've ever spent the most time with was yu-gi-oh and couldn't get myself to understand MG.

The very first person you play on the original campaign fucking cheats on me, even on easy, to win. I've came close to beating her every time but she ends up drawing 4 or 5 monsters like nothing even happened.

There was also an add-on released for it that has a new single player and cards adding so I decided to buy that too.

You're probably not playing very well if you're losing to the first person She reverse-cheats, as in she does retarded things to make the fight easier.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm making good decisions on what to play and what not to do but when I get her below 10 points she just goes berserk and play multiple monsters all the damn time.

Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers on PS3, PC in 2010, XBLA getting more content

Wizards of the Coast has announced that PC and PS3 gamers have more to look forward to than just Magic: The Gathering Tactics. In spring 2010, Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers will hit PCs, followed by a PS3 version in the fall. Previously available only on Xbox Live Arcade, Duels of the Planeswalkers features traditional Magic gameplay with plenty of unlockable cards as well as online versus and co-op play. The PS3 and PC versions will include similar gameplay, though the press release notes that the PC version will include "an extra bonus." It's up in the air as to what this bonus might be, though more complex deck building would certainly be welcome.

Meanwhile, the XBLA version of Planeswalkers will also receive two more expansion packs in spring and summer 2010. These expansions -- like the first, released earlier this year -- will include new cards, characters and some "surprises" as well.
