I love it so far it looks slick but I'm sure it eats a bit of memory. It has support for a bunch of languages but my favorite has to be LOLCAT. It changes a few things like Connection to CONNECSHUN and My Contacts to MAH CONTACTS. Its quite funny. Anyway give it a try you get 30 days of pro then you "have to buy" (I think its worth it to be honest).

Any idea if they'll actually properly support the thing this time around, and rather not 'ignore' problems that arise when the official client servers get an update?

I used to be a Trillian user back during 3.0'ish, but got fed up after every feature it had empty up breaking due to changes on the servers, and the developers not releasing an update to fix it.
(I couldn't even send files in MSN....)

Will be more interested when they get a Mac version running, as I want to see how it compares directly to Adium in terms of handling/usage. (the best free multi-IM client for the OS imo, although it lacks webcam/voice support)

I have no clue at this point but I hope they do. I have already reported one bug when opening a new conversation the previous window doesn't switch to tab mode correctly and the graphics get all screwy. You have to minimize and then bring the window back up to be able to see the tabs. Its quite annoying.

You can probably crack it, I've had other Pro versions of Trillian cracked, shrug. I haven't spent a single second researching Astra but I imagine there'll be a free and a pro version for it too, unless they've stated otherwise.

I've always liked Trillian, but like others have said, finally got sick of things not working. I couldn't send files through AIM or MSN, couldn't direct connect, webcam / etc never worked, so i ended up DL'ing the other clients anyway.. shrug. Here's to hoping it works good. I'm a facebook whore so that feature is pretty nifty.

Digsby would be the free alternative, it's pretty much the same thing. Integrates with social sites and all that, and is the same kind of flashy memory-hogging interface that Astra seems to boast. I use digsby all the time, it's pretty nice and I haven't had any crashing or bug issues in a long time. So yeah, give it a shot if you like Astra.

Going to have to give this a whirl. Using Pidgin right now and Digsby looks much, much better.

Astra is actually pretty awesome. Fixes a lot of the old problems I had with the old Pro client. it even fixed the MSN/Yahoo bug where MSN accounts couldn't interacts with yahoo accounts despite the services being compatible now. :D

Thanks, I'll try that one out at home...going to Beta Astra right now on my work PC...liking it thus far. Being able to have a lot of RSS feeds go through the same interface as my IMs is awesome.

When I used digsby a few months ago, I remember it slowing down my pc for some odd reason and messages would start to appear slowly as if its in slow motion. If they fixed it then digsby is pretty nice as well, but astra seems to diminish all these problems and it doesn't hog up system resources at all from what I'm noticing.

That resource hog thing was I think due to a memory leak, they patched it some time ago. Digsby is using a little under 30K of memory on my computer ATM.

Digsby is superior in all ways, what Cephius said is true. The huge memory leak was fixed in Feb-March patches.
