    Laptop Problem

My laptop seems to have died last night. Everytime I try to turn it on the power light comes on and the lights for caps lock and scroll lock flash for aboujt 10 seconds and then it shuts off. Any ideas? It's a Dell XPS M1210.

Ouch. Same laptop here, but only 2 years old. You're scaring me. Thanks for the heads up.

Blinking caps/scroll lock on Dell computers, afaik indicate an hardware failure which could be caused by a simple faulty memory error(likely), unseated memory, modem etc. or a more serious one(gfx adapter, CPU failure, HD failure, mobo). I am not sure how accessible Dell memory modules are, but removing one of them for testing purposes might be a good idea.

Your user's manual may also include information about the error code(yes, blinking lights and beeps can very well be an error code).

Your best bet is to send it to service as Laptops are rather hard to work with other than the couple of memory checks I've mentioned above. If it is caused by memory, it probably won't cost you much at all.

Edit: Have you also tried simple steps to see if your power source/laptop power intake working as intended? Try running it without battery/on adapter and with battery/without plugged.

This was it. One of my memory sticks must have come dislodged, (ppl borrow this laptop a lot might have been dropped) I pushed it back in and it turned right back on. Thanks! Now I just need to put this beast back together

power supply most likely dead, your battery is drained, thus it wont work. this happened to older dells that i owned. the psu's go out.. just try a replacement and see if it works
