The Wire, has anyone here seen it?

The Wire is a gritty urban drama set in the city of Baltimore, and every season explores a different aspect of the city. Season 1 is about the drug trade, season 2 is about the port, season 3 focuses mostly on the city government, season 4 focuses on the school system, and season 5 focuses on the city news media. The Wire originally aired on HBO in the USA from 2002-2008, and there were five seasons of it during that time. I myself only found out about the show a year ago, and since then i have seen every episode. I was amazed at how good the show was, considering it never received high ratings and also never won any major awards. It's the best TV show I've ever seen - better than the Sopranos which was my favorite for several years, and also better than 24 (before 24 jumped the shark).

Have any of you guys seen it, or heard of the show even? Even if only a few posters say they have seen it, that would be cool. It's a hidden gem I think.

    The wire?

That sounds like a show the critics might have overlooked.

One of the best dramas ever, if not the best.. Season 3 was my favorite.. Then Season 1, 4, 5, 2.. I hated the Port season and wasn't a big fan of the newspaper arc either.. The critics praised season 4 as being the best of the series.. Stringer Bell was an awesome character, but Omar Little was my favorite..

    Hahaha

No I haven't heard of The Wire, maybe you could tell me more about it?

    Spoiler: show
Sarcasm! It's a really great show, still not finished watching it but I've been meaning to catch up!

Should check out Generation Kill, by the same Writer. It's very different, but kinda similar in a way... I'm terrible at sumarys and explanations, you should just watch it.

One of my all time favorite shows, I'm surprised it's not more popular, but eh.

I loved this show too. Really loved it. Fantastic acting/setting/story. The newspaper one wasn't as good as the others, but they were so good showing how things like power vacuums work etc. and the stories seemed real. Really loved it.

Only one of the best series ever. I watched it all the time when it was airing on HBO.

It really didn't get overlooked, the show got a ton of critical praise. The thing it lacked was an advertising campaign.

Yeah, no one I know has heard of The Wire, but it's one of the best police dramas I've ever seen. I think it starts off pretty slow, but that's only because you don't know the characters yet and the story is only beginning, after that it's one of the most gripping shows.

Excellent actors all around, everytime I see one of them in another show I always think of The Wire first.

Yeah it actually made me sad for Lance Reddick who's in that travesty of a show I couldn't stand, Fringe. Why go from such an awesomely written, amazing show to such a terrible, terrible program. Poor guy. I feel sorry for John Noble for the same reason, he's wasted on Fringe, really.

It makes more sense once you know who Omar is and what he does, and is quite hilarious as a result.

    Oh Omar, what an injustice.
