I am trying to burn a movie, the movie is .avi and it works fine, but the subtitles won't show up. On VLC I have to goto View > Subtitle track etc etc, how do I burn it on the dvd with the subtitles on?

Add permanent subtitles to S/VCD,DVD,AVI with ffdshow/vobsub - VideoHelp.com
This seems to have the answer. I think that you'll probably end up having to burn the subtitles into the finished project, meaning that you won't be able to turn them on and off; they'll be encoded directly into the movie track rather than as an optional overlay.
As far as I know, using ConvertxtoDVD, you just have to have the subtitle file in the same folder as the movie you are burning, and it will do all the work for you (you can turn them on and off while watching, not hardsubbed).
Pun is right. However, ConvertXtoDVD also costs 50$ for the full version; the trial version adds a watermark. I'm sure you could find a pirated copy somewhere if you wanted to.
