Efron possibly in Death Note remake?

Actor Zac Efron (High School Musical, Hairspray, Me and Orson Welles) answered a question from the Collider.com website regarding his possible involvement in a film adaptation of the Death Note suspense manga. Efron said, "I love Death Note, and we were, kind of, working on it right now. You know, it's not…it's definitely not something that would be coming up soon. [Turns to Me and Orson Welles director Richard Linklater] What's the classic answer, Rick? 'It's not on the front burner.' No, no, it's something that was … I feel like, regardless of whatever I say, it's going to be [interpreted by the media to be] my next movie. No, it's not. It was an idea. Who knows? I had a meeting on it."
Vertigo Entertainment revealed in 2008 that it was developing a remake of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note story and had hired Vlas and Charles Parlapanides to write the screenplay. In the hit manga, a teenager finds a notebook with which he can put people to death by writing their names. He begins a self-anointed crusade against the criminals of the world, and a cat-and-mouse game begins with the authorities and one idiosyncratic genius detective.

The Hollywood Reporter newspaper revealed in April that Mandalay Pictures acquired the live-action film rights to another manga/anime-related property: Shoji Gatoh's Full Metal Panic! light novels. As a self-professed "huge comic book and manga fan," Efron acknowledged at the time that he had a meeting on the Full Metal Panic! project but noted it is not "likely" to happen.

To me it sounds like likely that it will happen, just not yet.

I love death note...but ugh...i see no good comming out of any adaption. They are going to miss everything that made the original awesome.

Aside from looking perfect for the role I have never seen this guy act, I really don't know what the hell to expect. If he takes his role seriously with how much he resembles him, maybe it could be a surprise.

I never expected Ashton Kutcher to make a decent/serious movie, but Butterfly Effect surprised me.

and yeah, as much as I want to say "lolefron" to anything, he hasnt done much acting. can't say I know how good of an actor he is. He might be an incredible actor. He may also suck terribly.
I say I hate the idea of them making an americanized version of Death Note and FMP more than who they have starring in it.
I'll say one thing... high school musical, 17 again, death note and fmp... He's going to be doing movies as a high school student forever lol.

I think Zefron did a pretty decent job in Hairspray (although you didn't have to try very hard in that role) but it was better than HSM. If he can pull it off, it'd be epic. I didn't like the acting much in the other live action movie.

I couldn't get over how horrifyingly stupid they made the bullshit version of time travel they spewed lame all over the place with to see if the acting or whatnot was any good.

The time travel could have been better, but for what it was it was a decent movie. Sequels were ass.
