Max Fame + NPC Sell Price

I have maximum fame (according to NPC fame checker) in sandy (sandy citizen/rank 10), but I do not get the "best" prices when selling/buying items in sandy.

Does anyone know what can be affecting this?

I have a mule in sandy that has the same level of fame and gets better prices. The only thing I could think of was perhaps some of my fame in other areas or quests could be affecting the prices, since my mule has never really done anything outside of sandy.

My guess would be that you need to get a little more fame after the npc reports the highest level fame.

It's possible that, like you can keep gaining exp after dinging 75 (though not enough to level up to 76), you can keep gaining price-improving fame after dinging 10.

I've actually found that if your fame is too high you get higher prices in towns. Some of my mules have quite high fame, and some only have enough to have gotten full sized safe. The higher fame ones actually pay more for NPC goods than the high but not too high ones. My main character and my husband's main character pay more for NPC items than our mule do, as we have high fame in all areas.

Can you explain why this would make any sence at all? I understand what you said but I want to say shenanigans.

I know for a fact that this is true.

Results of the link that Suiram posted in a nutshell - Missing info = I don't know:

NPC Price = Jeuno/Tavnazia/Whitegate/Outpost NPC Buy-back price (What you get when you sell something to NPC - Does not vary with fame.)
Non-Jeuno City Prices (Max Fame) = Floor (NPC Price x 1.025) if a "newbie" character (Criteria could be related to SJ or Max. Job Level)
Non-Jeuno City Prices (Max Fame) = Floor (NPC Price x 1.02) otherwise
Tenshodo (Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno) Prices (Max Fame) = Floor (NPC Price x 1.025) for all characters
Guild Prices (Max Buy-back) Prices = NPC Price x 1.5

    Fame Effects:
NPC Price = Does not vary with fame in Jeuno related cities
    Non-Jeuno City Prices = Floor(NPC Price x 0.97) at 0 Fame | Floor(NPC Price x 1.02) at Max Fame
    Norg City Prices = Floor(NPC Price x 0.9475) at -1 Fame* | Floor(NPC Price x 0.9625) at 0 Fame | Floor(NPC Price x 1.025) at Max Fame
*This -1 fame is achievable by raising Jeuno Fame without raising Norg Fame.

    ----------------
I am also collecting the Jeuno NPC prices for all items in the game. If you would like to help, simply PM me the prices.

If you will like to leech off what I have collected so far: http://ffxi.whimsicalmusings.info/ff...temviewer.aspx
I know the interface is not great but it will be improved eventually.

I do not claim ownership over the item database. That is from the publicly available database dump from FFRecipe.com. As such feel free to update the Wikis with the info as limited by their license agreement. And, if you don't believe my data, feel free to go verify it yourself.

I know for a fact that the vendor you sell some things to in jeuno matters. When I was making remedies, they would sell to the medicine shop in Upper Jeuno for 3200 and to other NPCs in Jeuno for 31xx. That is the only example of this I can tell you for sure.

It seems that perhaps after you get a certain rank or certain requirements, the NPC price of items changed.

Bird's egg was 51g, distilled water 11g for my main but 50 and 10 for my mule.

Mule is lvl 10 with tons of playtime (crafting 80+). Might be something to do with subjob or rank though (mule still rank 2)

The medicine shop doesn't give this bonus now if it ever did. Perhaps they changed the NPC affliation.

I can give you other examples. Nashmau for example has an NPC affliated with Tenshodo that gives you a slightly higher bonus, almost side by side to another NPC affliated with regular Jeuno, so you will get different prices for the same item on them.

I'm pretty sure the npc with Tenshodo will not buy fish will only buy back Tenshodo item's. I could be wrong tho.

That's a Tenshodo guild NPC like those in Norg. Limited supplies and prices go up next day after people buys them. So they don't count as regular NPCs
