Hey all,
I like to use GIMP to edit photos (too cheap for photoshop and don't want to pirate), and it works fine on my desktop, but I can't get it running on my laptop, which is a bit older. Every time I open the program, it will show the main window, toolbox, and layer dialog, but immediately closes, unless I manage to grab the main window and move it around in time, in which case, it pops up with an error dialog box the moment I let go of the mouse button.

Computer Specs:
1.5 GHz Processor (Pentium)
1 GB DDR RAM
Radeon 9600M
It's a very old laptop (obviously), but it still seems like it should be able to do some basic editing. Is it just too old to handle GIMP? Also, I was reading online that in many cases, GIMP's tile cache is automatically set to 1 GB, and this will cause crashes on PCs with exactly that amount of RAM. Could this be the problem, and if so, is there any way to change the tile cache other than through the preferences menu in GIMP? (I can't get to that menu, obviously, since the program crashes the moment I open it).
Thanks.
