Leathercraft 49 and stuck.....

What did you guys level on at this level? Most guides I have come across says to make Catopblas(sp) leather, however I can never manage to get any off the auction house and farming them is out of the question. I have also heard of moblin sheep skins at this level... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Learn to use ffxiah.com to utalize what is best. Check prices for mats both from npcs and the AH. See how fast stuff sells at the AH and for what price. See how much you can get from an NPC for things. I never leveled leather, but here's what I came up with in 10 minutes:

-Leather shields will get you a level. They sell to npcs for 1200g and you can buy the lauren shields from npcs. You'll probably end up losing about 2k a synth.
-Raptor mantles cap at 53 and will sell for a profit since they're used for one of the mog house upgrades but it will take awhile to sell.
-If you're thinking about farming moblin sheep skins, don't do it. It never drops. (I tried to help a friend farm them once)
-Could do desert boots and sell for profit, but yowie skins are scarce and if you break it's kind of painful so I might wait a lvl or 2.
-If you can find a clothcrafter doing dance shoes you can do mocasins for profit, but I'd wait a few levels on that one too.
-Tiger leathers sell fast and there's a large supply of materials, but they cap at 61 so you will need a few levels.

If I were you I'd do shields till 51. Then I'd do a combination of raptor mantles, mocassins, and dessert boots till 53-54(depending on how lazy I get), and do tiger leathers since they're fairly easy to farm and sell for a profit even if you buy the mats. If you want to do the mocassins/dessert boots for longer go ahead. They will probably make you money in the long run, but the keyword there is long.

On my main, I bought up about 12-14 stacks of Raptor Skins, and farmed a bunch of Grass Threads, made Raptor Mantles to 53. It was painful, but had to be done. If you go this route, cap at 53, stop and work on getting your Tanner's Gloves. The +1 from that + Advanced Support from the guild will help you through the first few levels of making Tiger Leather (61 cap), otherwise you'll experience a few too many breaks for your liking.

Another option, though, if you have Leather Ensorcellment from the guild, you could make High Breath Mantles, which cap at 52. PLDs in the mid-30s up to about 50 use that for the Enmity +5 it gives them.

I'd do:

- Raptor mantle (will sell in the long run, for inventory quest)
- other parts of Raptor set (sells slowly)
- Crow gaiters
- Desert boots
- Moccasins
- Black tiger leather

Remember to take paying support (+3) when you can for less breaks.

I made Lizard Cesti to Leather 17 intentionally so I could do Himanites at this level.

If you didn't do that, then raptor mantles actually look really easy... Simple materials and farmable.

edit: Just checked a couple servers and there are tons of raptor skin stacks on the AH's. You shouldnt even need to farm these. You're leathercraft now so farm some hides and make some leather as profit.

himantes->52

moccasins- 56ish (i was leveling cc at the time, so i used these for dance shoes)

tiger leather - 60 (start on these as early as you can, very cheap, very easy to farm, very fast sell, at least when i leveled they sold fast)

if they don't sell fast, you could always just resynth the leathers into a hard leather ring, and get two synths per tiger hide.

Check out how Laminated Buffalo Leather sells on your server. I did Himantes on my leather main and did these on my bone mule for sub. They took a little while to sell, but it was decent profit for skilling. You'll need some Alchemy skill, but getting to around 10 is really easy.

If you get the key item, you can do High Breath Mantles to 52. After that, I just did a mix of Catoblepas and Tiger leather. Painful at first, but they were pretty low cost overall.

what i did was raptor leather straps til 51 npc those since they take forever to sell and go do tiger leathers. easy to farm and cheap. also you can save the leathers til like 57 and do hard leather rings they npc for about 775 gil.

all I have to say is fuck raptor mantles, those things *appear* to sell. I ended up npcing like 30 for a major loss.

I just powercrafted with advanced support from 49. The losses and skillups were terrible for the first 3-4 levels, but eventually i'd see better skillups and just took it all the way to 60. I was quite anxious to just get it over with lol.

Here I just took a 4-5:1 loss and bought up raptor skins by the stack and crafted raptor mantles til I hit 51. From then on I just bought maybe 10 stacks of distilled waters and 10 stacks of windy tea leaves and farmed tigers in batallia downs until I was full up of tiger hides. After that I would make trips to windy to get advanced support until I hit 56. Did tiger leather synths out in the field till 60 after that. It took several days though to finish, but you can make 100-200k gil in tiger fangs on thf from the Sandy quest after all is said and done not to mention selling off all the leather you make.

Buy about 5~7 stacks of Raptor Skins, bite the bullet and do Mantles. When you are out of ingredients, you'll be 51~52; do Black Tiger Leather -> Tiger ring and desynth back for your leather. Or hell you can farm the hides and sell the leather to play get backs on the massive hit you'll have to take from those raptor skins.

Make tiger leathers as early as possible. You can farm them easily in Batallia, bring them back to guild for HQ support. You can do it with coeurls to 71 too, though I used bugard straps to 62(?) as a bridge.

I'm stuck @ 77 now, manticore hides are hard to come by. I have over 60 tiger jerkins for 80until I run out.

edit: save your leather, all of the 70s is tiger stuff(jerkins, gloves, mantles, etc. I found that gloves make good gil as long AH isn't flooded)
