Thinking about switching car insurance companies, any ideas?

So I get my bill and its 1400 bucks for a PT cruiser 07 model and this is with no tickets/accidents in the 7 years of driving.

Now Aug 1st is when the policy renews for the year and I am really considering going with another company other then AAA but I wanted to know what some people are using for their auto insurance and with all the commercials saying allstate and geico are not the lowest I am not sure which company I should go with.

I was wondering what fellow BG'ers use and what they recommend...

Shop around, millage WILL vary for car insurance. Just curious, what was your yearly payment for last year?

You have a relatively new car, so the payment will be a little higher than normal, and I can't tell if you are over 25 or not because based on your description you could be as young as 23 really.

That number doesn't seem insane, especially if you are male, and driving in a 'high risk area', but I will admit for someone with a flawless record it seems a little up there.

Also, you didn't list the coverage, is this just basic liability, or is there collision and extra coverage as well?

Go through an Insurance Agency. Preferably one were you know someone on the inside or a friend knows someone on the inside. Call that person/agent and let them know what kind of coverage you want. If you dont know what kind of coverage you want tell them a price range you would feel comfortable paying and then let them work their magic. I knocked $100 a month off of my GEICO car insurance when i left those thieves last year. Hoping to do that again this fall.

$1400 is pretty high btw. I pay less than that and I have a DUI on my record and a 2006 car...

I would recommend NOT using esurance.

Just overall poor service. Can't wait 'til my current six-month stint is up so I switch to a real insurance carrier.

Yes I am 23, I drive in suburbs north of Detroit but not near it. Last year it was 1800 something and now its down to 1400ish but still high, I have the normal coverage required by law then if I get in an accident 500 deductable if it was my fault otherwise its waved, along with an accident that might be hitting a dear ect is covered and full coverage Im pretty sure.

TBH I don't know the details as I went over it a few years back and it sounded good then but now with school bills coming in the next month with this on top of it I really want to save as much money as I can. I called them today and the above is what they told me so maybe I am getting a good deal or maybe not hence my inquiry

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    I actually have the opposite experience. I'm using esurance right now (have a 2006 VWbug convert lease). Couple weeks ago fiance.....was backing out of a parking space and backed into a car that was driving behind him. ><;

Needless to say, esurance was hella fast, and dealing with the repair shop and everything went extremely smoothly. Also the claims lady was very nice.

Maybe I got lucky iono. XD

    Is it Farmers?

Supposedly All-State is good. The hardest part about insurance in MI, is it's a no fault state, so premiums are a little higher than other places, especially around the Metro area.

Luckily USAA opened up to Enlisted Military a few years back, and I've been using them ever since. I pay about $150 per mo. for full coverage on 2 cars, plus renters and flood insurance. I've always had great service with them.

    Maybe I'm just unlucky.

I was rear ended back in February, called them 15 minutes after and told them what happened. They wouldn't do anything because it was the other guys fault. Waited a few weeks for the other guys insurance to finally contact me. Then sometime in May someguy from esurance calls me and says they need a recorded statement, a full three months after the incident. Now somehow it may be my fault and my rates may increase.

My bumper popped back into place and all I have is a small scuff mark. I don't care about getting money, just the way they waited so long to return calls and to get a statement felt very sloppy and unprofessional. Thank god it was only a minor accident. I'll still be switching in a few months and told them as much already.

Man, my brother had a 2004 PT Cruiser - the thing essentially totaled itself mechanically before it hit 50,000 miles. I hope the '07s are built better than that piece of shit was...

I have used Progressive and Mercury - I generally just go with the cheapest company I can find.

My dad works for Chrysler and he got me a exec car fully tricked out for 45% less then market value and only 3000 miles on it and after shopping around it was a way better deal then anything I could find as I wanted a new car so I don't have to start replacing parts for a while.

Also depending on how your brother is, without proper maintenance you can mess up any car in that amount of time that or if he bought it used they could have not taken care of it.

My friend knows someone who over 30,000 miles has had 2 oil changes, needless to say that car is in the junkyard right now.

Naw, he bought it new and had regular maintenance. He had to take it in 5-6 times over its relatively short lifespan because normal mechanical shit kept breaking on him, which is why he was selling it in the first place, but a bad ball-bearing or rotor finally did the car in completely - he barely got it to the dealer to trade it in (fortunately they'd already finalized the deal and he was just driving it for 2 days while he waited for them to get the car he'd bought delivered). He found out later the dealer just scrapped it, wasn't worth fixing. Funny thing is, part of the reason he bought it was because it got a "best buy" rating from Consumer reports in 2004.

Sounds like you got a great deal though, hopefully it won't have the same constant problems. For me, the gas mileage just makes me cringe (especially with the tepid power you get for it).

I've got progressive. So far no issues with them. My rates are a little fucked up though due to DMV's stupid laws about suspended license. Lost my license for a year when a stupid fly by night insurance company cancelled my insurance after losing my payment, and I got into an accident. So even though I've been driving since 97, CA considers me only driving since 04 since another company fucked up and forgot to file my SR22 form and got my license suspended again -_-

Currently I'm paying $106 a month for my 2008 Civic.

I recently switched from Allstate to Progressive and ended up saving about $200 every 6 months on a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX, and getting better coverage limits on top of it.
