Cleaning out one's ears (a different kind of advice topic)

Basically, every few months one if not both of my ears seemed to get clogged by wax to the point it is similar to covering one's ear with their hand to deafen sound.

I went to the doctor once to have it flushed out but they were rather... strong about it and even forced some wax to sit on the eardrum itself. This followed by some painful hot pressured water being shot inside until it was flushed out.

I know there are some mini kits for these kinds of things in pharmacies but the ones I have tried didn't help. I was informed to use hydrogen peroxide to break down the wax then flush it out with warm water (with that bulb squirter thing that's name escapes me). There was some mention of using rubbing alcohol but I can not remeber for what.

Really sick of this overall and I wish to inquire some advice <3

Barring q-tips (I personally know people who have gotten ear infections from wax buildup that came from ramrodding the wax into their ears with q-tips)...

Chew gum a lot, the natural motion of the jaw is designed to expel earwax and it evaporates at room temperature. Other than that, those home kits are your best bet.

As a hearing impaired person the wax can build up a bit quicker because of wearing my hearing ads a bit so I constantly use q-tips. Things work wonders and feel better then an organism at times. I can't stand to see people that don't clean their ears and watch the wax build up. I'm kinda anal about keeping mine clean and somewhat addicted to the q-tips. I get the wooden ones and clean my ears three times a day.

It's been a long time since I had it done, but when I was a kid I once had my ears cleaned out during an ear infection by way of candle. Sounds strange but bascially what it was was a hallow candle about 10 inches tall and they had a plate of tin foil or something around the candle so wax didn't drip on me and I laid on my stomach with my head turned and basically just took a nap lol. I think I was 8 or 9 at the time so my memory is a little fuzzy on how it worked, but I remember hearing crackling(probably just from the fire) and a little heat but not hot. Split open the inside of the candle when it was done and the thing was caked lol. Thing worked wonders too, ears had never and since ever been cleaner lol

edit: quick google proved to myself that I'm not crazy and didn't dream it up, Ear Candles! for your enjoyment

A word on using the candles though. Don't. They're just a placebo. They don't actually clean out the wax, and the stuff you find at the bottom of the candle is just wax from the candle that fell into the center.

Isn't the ear supposed to be self cleaning or something?

Everytime I go to the bathroom I use q-tips >_> I hate seeing people with dirty ears, so naturally, I try to keep mine clean as well.

I use my finger. Sometimes it hurts, that's how I know I am doing a good job.

Everytime I exit the shower I immediately clean my ears once with q-tips. Followed by a small piece of toilet paper to make sure no area in the canals are moist.

I've never had a piece of earwax in my life to my knowledge, so I guess I'm doing something right.

I managed to perforate my eardrum when i was like 15 with a q-tip, never used em since. I just take hot showers and wash my ear out, dry with a tissue and since then ive never really had any signs of earwax.
I also chew alot of gum and my profession involves talking alot incase what someone said above about jaw movement is true, guess that would count toward it too.

Isn't there this whole thing that using q-tips and using your finger only pushes the earwax into your ear even more?

When I was in grade school there was this guy who had the nastiest ears I had ever seen. Seeing him like that made me kinda "phobic" (not in the strongest sense of the word though) about my ears, so I started to clean them with a Q-Tip every day. I enjoy my clean ears, and I'm sure others do too.

I know you aren't supposed to use Q-Tips for your ears, but my god, it can feel so good sometimes. And it does the job, so... as long as you aren't stupid or anything, you're fine.

I used Q-tips every month or so on my ears, I wasn't aware that you are not supposed to use them. I don't know how you guys think it's enjoyable to use them though, once I get it in my ear and i start swirling it around to catch the ear wax, I start coughing, to the point of gagging (not exactly the right word but I cough a lot).

    Guess I'm doing something wrong

I use Q-Tips damn near daily on my ears and have done so since childhood. I've never had any sort of ear problem and as far as I can tell my hearing has never changed. If you're really worried about damaging your ear with this method, just don't do it very often and be careful. Don't ram the shit into your head etc.

Whoa now wait a minute here....you're NOT supposed to use Q-tips for cleaning out the inside of your ear?
