In case anyone wanted it.
In case anyone wanted it.
Now I can't decide whether I should get this or the port that I hear has some annoying lag during spells and crap.
PSP Port has some extra dudes to unlock (Balthier I can remember), and co-op missions which you'll never likely get around to playing (part of the reason being said missions are recommended for end-game only, and it's hard to find another PSP'er with a copy of the game), but every single time you initiate any form of action/spell/etc, the game's framerate drops down to what feels like a third of what it should be until the action is over.
Makes the already-long-enough battles take much longer than they should.
I should also mention that I've been particularly spoiled by how fastpaced the Disgaea series is compared to every other SRPG out there. FFT is just slooooooooooooow. Could never finish the game on PSP since grinding levels just took too long with the slowdowns.
I didn't really notice THAT much of a slowdown, but then again I only played the PSP version and not the PS1 one.
But yeah, the 2 extra characters are:
Luso (main character from FFTAdv2), who is a carbon copy of Ramza except he has Poach innately without having to set it as an ability
and Balthier, who is just ridiculous, since has ALL the abilities of Mustadio AND all the Steal abilities, as well as insanely high speed.
The psp version also has Dark Knight/Onion Knight, but you can't really get much of the great gear for them without doing Co-Op missions. I've heard the translation errors were fixed, and the text was made to be more similar to the vernacular used in FF12, along with the pretty voiced pencil-style cutscenes.
Personally I'd go with the PSP version, I had a great time playing it and I didn't notice any lag but then again it was pretty much the first sRPG I've played all the way through, so people with more experience with SRPGs on PSP might feel otherwise.
Oh and also, Silent Hill (the original, for PS1, and arguably the best one in the series) is only $5.99 on PSN as well. Wellll worth the price.
Why does everyone feel the need to grind on FFT? I usually try to get a Dancer (or Bard if I want to challenge myself) by the end of the first chapter. From then on you can either shut down mages with witch hunt or blow through battles with nameless dance. It's too easy to get overpowered and unlocking calculator is pure overkill.
Need to grind to get the skills that don't suck, particular when your Ramza is weak and a particular one NPC later on in the game which you're forced to solo likes to kick your ass if not prepared.
Yea, I remember that fight. I haven't played since last year, but I remember getting into melee range with Hamedo and dual Bloodswords equipped. With at least 90 Brave you'll cancel at least 70% of Weigraf's melee attacks while healing from the first sword spell he cheap shots you with at the start of the fight.
Another strategy I used was one-shotting him as a Samurai.Magic Attack Up+ Holy Miter+Wizard's Robe+Bizen Boat+Magic Glove+You're strongest Katana and you can deal 500+ damage easily.
"grinding" is easy as hell anyway, all you do is stand around one person and spam chakra while you beat the crap out of him as frogs. Time consuming, but easy.
Apparently you can autolevel in the psp version as well, I forget how, and idk if you still can in the PS1 version.
People make a bigger deal out of the slowdown than is actually there. It is really only troublesome on summons and higher tier magic.
Yeah, slowdown isn't a big deal. I'd go with the port for the extras.
Didn't the original have slowdown to begin with?
not relative to the psp
i wouldve bought it if I didnt play the bejesus out of it already on emulator
I played through the entire PSP version recently. I loved it as well. As for the certain NPC you guys are talking about that Ramza has to solo
Spoiler: show
you can autolevel on PS1 version. involves frogs and auto-battle.
