Windows7 family upgrade

I couldnt seem to find this info, but I will admit I didnt spend more than a few minutes skimming the internet. With the family upgrade, a person can use the same copy to up to 3 PCs at home. Is the upgrade version only good from Vista -> 7? My two PCs have XP and my laptop Vista. I dont want to get the upgrade only version if it wont work in my XP machnes.

The windows xp > 7 upgrade, isn't quite the traditional upgrade. What it'll do is move all of your xp files (documents, programs, windows folder, user folders) and stuff them into c:\windows.old

Here's a little more help if you don't know what you're doing/how to mess with transfering old files. How to Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 with Windows Easy Transfer
