    IE Issue

Ok before we start, where I work we have no choice but to use IE. A large amount of our crap we use, we've had since before the days of firefox and it just implodes, so I can't switch all 3000+ Badge and Professional personel to the better browsing experience.

Issue i'm running into is when trying to install flash from adobe's site, I get a your security settings do not allow this active x control to be installed. I've since gone through the security settings, reset all to default, switched all disabled active x options to prompt, and even went as far as logging off of the domain to log onto the local computer itself as an admin, and still running into this fucking issue. The super annoying thing is it fucking installs on firefox but of course the shit they need to do 99% of it does not work. Has anyone else run into this issue, and if so what did you do to get around it?

Quick and dirty on the specs, IE 7 with Windows XP SP3. Everything else is run of the mill P4 to C2D processors with anywhere from 512-3gb ram.

I see that your post says it does not allow the active-x control to be installed, but are you sure its not this?

Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls
    installed on your computer.

If it is the case of it not being allowed to install, have you tried using the standalone exe to install instead of the active-x installer?

Domain policy may be locking out changes, do the ActiveX settings revert on their own if you reopen the settings after saving changes? Even if you log onto the local computer, domain policy is still enforced unless you disconnect from the domain completely.

If that's not the cause, I'd make sure there isn't some kind of flash already installed on the machines and delete it if so.

Nope, they don't change back after applying them. If it was domain policy, I would think that it would end up affecting all of the computers. So far out of about 50 we have put flash on, only 3 have run into this issue. As for downloading flash from a seperate site, I did try that and it still failed. It's like IE is actively blocking that plugin. I think my next option here if this malware scan comes back negative is to un-install IE and re-install.

Well, I was not recommending a seperate site. I was recommending using the standalone installer instead of the active x installer.

It seems like your misinterpreting the message you are getting also. The install is going fine. After researching the possible infobar messages I came up with this:

Internet Explorer Information bar: frequently asked questions - Windows Vista Help

This is the only message, its not referring to your install, its definately a security setting in IE blocking flash from running.

Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options.

A webpage tried to use an ActiveX control or script but your security settings did not allow it.

If you trust the publisher of the ActiveX control or script, you can allow it to run by removing the website address from the Restricted sites list. If the website is not on the Restricted sites list, you can add it to the Trusted sites list. For information about adding a website to your Trusted sites list, see Security zones: adding or removing websites. If you are unable to change these settings, your computer administrator might not allow you to make the change.
Or are you actually getting this?

To help protect your security, Internet Explorer stopped this site from installing an ActiveX control on your computer. Click here for options.
This would be the error if the install was failing.

Well, tried to do a Windows Update, and that failed as well. Did a search on the update error code, and found the solution that way, hosed registry key. If anyone else is running into this, here is the fix. If your going to dick around in the registry though, please make sure you back it up. I Hold no responsibility if your computer melts before your eyes.

    1. Open regedt32 and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Sys temCertificates\TrustedPublisher
    2. Under TrustedPublisher look for Safer key and delete it.
