Holy crap. Tiger just lost for the first time in a major when leading after 54 holes.

It all came down to a 30ish foot eagle and a 205 yard hybrid around a tree to 8 feet.

Really, really amazing play by Yang.


This is so huge, not just in the Tiger losing sense, but in what it does for Asian golf.

Yeah, no joke. That and he had some awful luck with a lot of his putts just skirting along the outside edge, and he's been about a half-club too far on a lot of his shots. Just some bad breaks, but he'll rebound. He may come back next year and win the Masters for all we know.

Yeah, it's interesting because I was thinking coming into today that like the best possible thing for golf would be if Tiger played reeeally well... and still lost.

Unfortunately the first part didn't come true (not that he played badly by any means... I think Yang was one of like 4 or 5 guys to even be under par for the day), but it was still great to see someone play extraordinarily well to beat him.


About the lol Asian golf thing, as long as half the damn world is in Asia, anything being a big deal over there becomes a massive step forward for whatever that thing is. Golf in particular has been booming there, and this is an insanely huge deal for the sport there. Like... golf could pull ahead of everything but soccer in terms of most players worldwide fairly easily thanks to this.


And yeah, that chip was insane... but holy fucking what the hell at that approach on 18. That's just raw steel for balls to try that shot, and a diamond lined stomach to actually hit it like that with what was on the line.

Hasn't soccer been booming over there lately as well? I know I've seen a lot more about the Japanese national teams lately. At least moreso than any other time, but yeah. If something catches on, it's definitely good considering the population over there.

And yeah, going over that tree like that was dare I say.. Tiger-like. Honestly, if Tiger was more confident during his play outside of Day 1, that's the type of shot he'd go for. He was just really conservative all week.

I wouldn't say Tiger folded as much as he just didn't putt well. His striking was really fine. Hell, even the drive on that last par 3 was right at the flag, just went about 5 yards too far. I think it ws a combo of Tiger burning the side of too many cups and the asian kid playing a fucking incredible round and doing something that most golfers can't...play a round with Tiger without choking.

Well you have to give credit to Yang, he played lights out and that shot over the trees to land within 5 feet of the cup on 18 was a hell of a shot. Not to mention the chip shot eagle from what, 60 feet?

Tiger putted like shit but you have to give Yang his credit. He wasn't intimidated and played aggressive and came out of top. Keep in mind that even as the 110th player in the world he is still lights out better than you, I and possibly everyone we know lol.

So he's no slouch. That was a hell of a pair up, we never turned it once they tee'd off at 1:45pm. It came down to the last hole and worth watching. It happens, he just played lights out.

The great thing about Tiger is that he can win more tournaments than anyone else on the tour this year, and because he didn't win a major it is considered a failure. He will likely win player of the year as well I would wager. The bar is so ridiculously high for him, and he likes to keep it there too, even he'll say he was disappointed by his play this year.

It's just unreal when you think about it.

Anyways, lights out for Yang this tourney. He out Tiger'd Tiger and that is damned impressive.

What I love about Tiger is that he can shoot a 2 under round. have a 4 shot lead, and still go to the podium and bitch about how terrible he was and how he should have an 8 stroke lead. Saying he sets the bar ridiculously high for himself is an understatement.
