Its pretty awesome, will probably end up buying a bunch for my laptop.

Let's see the worthwhile ones among the list...

    A. Creed
    Vice City
    BioShock
    Sid Meiers: Railroads(fucking awesome!)
    FarCry
    Call of Juarez
    PoP 2 Thrones
    Max Payne 2
Riddick(just because it includes Escape for Butchers bay, good bit of gameplay here for 5 bucks)
    Pirates! (Awesome, awesome game)
    Setters
    X-Com

I am not including Civilization IV, because it seems to be the base game only. 3 expansions change the game a LOT and you are simply better off with buying the "Complete" version.

Nice find. Definitely getting at least BioShock and Max Payne 2. Looks like every week there is a new set of games out for sale, so definitely going to be keeping up with it.

How does D2D handle its downloads? I'm used to Steam where it's my base for purchasing/downloading/reinstalling games.

Been tempted to grab Riddick, but I already own and beaten Butcher Bay back when it came out. But still, $5 to replay a better looking version of a game I own plus a little expansion can't hurt.

You download the game(generally in .exe/zip form) and install, there is no special software for it like Steam. They send you your CD KEYs via email and they are always available at your "my account" page.

You can always redownload them at any time if you happen to uninstall/delete setup files.

Regular Digital Download basically. I like them because you are not dependent to a 3rd party software like Steam.

Do they still have that thing where you're reliant on D2D-specific patches for games, or did they fix that long ago? I recalled it being one of the larger qualms for some gamers back in the day.
(hell, it's an issue with Steam still these days for some particular companies that never bother sending them an update to provide...*coughUbisoftcough*)

now they're onto Indie Games. World of Goo and The Path for 5 bucks, among others.

Also, how badly do I need a Steam account?

A couple months ago I would have shrugged. After quite a few games for fractions of their prices and some pretty nice functionality, I'd say you need it yesterday.

How good are the indie games they are offering this week? I already have World of Goo.

The $5 NWN2 is one of the expansion packs. If you want to get that game, you're probably better off looking for NWN2 Gold on other stores. D2D still has it for $40, whereas you can get it on Amazon for $28. It includes Mask of the Betrayer, which (sort of) continues the main questline from the first game, but not the other two retail modules. I'm sure if you wait long enough though, a version bundling all of them will come out =P

You're fine without having played the first game as the stories aren't directly connected. However, you can get NWN: Diamond for $13 on Amazon, which includes all the retail expansions for that game.

They're both good games, though post-patches and all I'd say NWN2 is probably the better way to go. Original campaign + Mask of the Betrayer makes for a pretty epic length story that's better than the official stuff in the first game. Both of 'em have a lot of user made modules too though.

Also, how badly do I need a Steam account?
I don't use Steam heavily, but IMO it's a good thing to have. Deals can be good, but the system itself is generally pretty nice. Very convenient way to manage games/updates on basically any machine you choose to install Steam on.

NWN2 had the WORST ending ever, seriously, I didn't bother with Mask of the Betrayer because of how awful the ending was.

Eh, Mask of the Betrayer continued from that point and was pretty well regarded story-wise. The ending for -that- was pretty fitting. I agree, the original campaign's ending was kind of meh, but it would have been hard to pick back up how they did if you became royalty or something.

The main problem I had with the ending was that it sounded like some dude recorded the voice over from his basement as an afterthought. Was just a weird way to end it.
