    Wii menu w/ gamecube controller?

I'm about to get my hands on a wii and one annoying aspect from playing at my friends house is the wii sensor always running out of battery power and can't play anything w/o replacing when I'd rather go through the menu w/ a GC controller anyways (considering the game in question doesn't require wii mote in the least, I'd rather just be able to plug in GC controller and play). Is there any way to navigate w/ GC controller or set the wii to autoload game first and only go to that menu if there is no game in?

I think there's a way to get it to autoboot into something like the homebrew channel (maybe even the disk channel? idk, haven't done this yet), but, if you can autoboot into something that takes controls from the GC controller, and you can initiate your game from that homebrew (some loaders I guess?) it should be possible.

Please note I don't really know if/how this would work. >.>

Outside of doing something like that, I don't really think it's possible. I know there are some hacks that let you change some system menu stuff, one of them may allow for gc controller input? No idea.

I also hate the wii mote, and am curious to hear about this <.<

There doesn't appear to be any way to do what you're suggesting with the standard wii software. I find it annoying also that it -has- to be the wiimote in order to do anything.

Rechargeable batteries or some sort of hack seem to be the only options.

Have another wii question. Just got it not too long ago and I have an older style TV. Has Yellow (video) red/white (both audio).

Wii's hook up has red/white for audio and then an option of red blue and a greenish color for video. I've tried all 3 for video. The greenish gets me black and white and the other 2 get me nothing. How do I get it working in color?

You should probably buy something like this:

Amazon.com: Wii A/V Cable: Nintendo Wii: Video Games

The wii should only have one output port as it uses a proprietary output cable. None of them should ship with a component cable (RGB). They should all have composite (RYW).

Also, to answer your question, the only games you can use a gamecube controller with are virtual console games. Every wii disc is coded to look for the wiimote as input so unless you load homebrew (that doesn't exist yet, to my knowledge) that bypasses this it can't be done. You'll just have to buy rechargeable batteries for it or bring a spare set and keep them charged.

Or, don't go over a friend's house to play wii without your wii mote (or tell the guy to buy more, fuck sake).

I wish I had Brawl. I play Mario Kart and other games right now.

Best solution is actually to just get a charger for your wiimotes, and don't forget them. It only takes a second to pop it in the charger when you're done, and if you keep forgetting your controllers when bringing the wii to a friend's house, I don't think it matters whether you forget the wiimote or a gamecube controller.

i'd advise against the controller charge stations. unless you absolutely can't keep track of rechargeable batteries, which are cheaper and can be used in any device using AA batteries, dont get a charge station. also there has been recalls on several of the charge station models because of them melting contacts or being fire hazards.

Mine have sat in the charging station since I bought them and they sit there for days at a time. Neither controller has fired out yet.

And no, rechargable batteries may seem cheaper and better when in fact they lose charge much quicker.

I'm speaking from experience, since I actually used rechargable batteries the first time around and watched as I had to charge them every 30-40 minutes of gaming.

I can't recall if nunchuk works, but you can navigate the Wii menu screen with a Classic Controller if you shelled out for one.

[EDIT] Nvm, read the first post assuming sensor meant you were working with a wireless sensor bar.
