MAXCONSOLE - Nintendo Wii - Exclusive: Wii 2 specs leaked, Blu-ray enabled and 1080p support?

We've just received some exclusive news and specs on the Wii 2 via Logic-Sunrise.com) (though a Nintendo of France marketing employee). The leaked specs denote the Wii 2 will get a Blu-ray drive (mainly to stop piracy), but will also support 1080P for games as well as movies. The new system is due out during the third quarter of next year and there will be the option to trade in old Wii's!

This is a nice exclusive we have here at MaxConsole courtesy of Artik from www.Logic-sunrise.com on the Wii 2. The actual information is said to have been leaked from an internal source of the marketing Nintendo France Service. Unlucky for them, this kind of information should stay internal, but that's not our philosophy.

- The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.
- 1080P and lower resolutions will be supported, for blu-ray movies and games.
- The release date is scheduled for third quarter of 2010.
- The release will be worldwide and on the same day for all countries.
- A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.

Moreover, Nintendo wants to make a worlwide annoucement, only one month before release date. Huge publicity and Viral Marketing will be utilized to create the Buzz. Official pictures are not yet available, and more specs will be released in due course.

Why do we believe it at all ?

* Artik from Logic-Sunrise.com has regularly provided news to MaxConsole and has a lot of 'insider' contacts.

* Nintendo has suggested that it's time they embraced high definition technology for the Wii and Blu-ray has firmly established itself. So a Wii 2 with Blu-ray support does make sense.

Seems plausible since the source of the inside info has delivered before. Blu-ray support is big I think, will definitely give Blu-ray a boost if it's true.

Believe it when I see it, though it would certainly make sense for Nintendo to do something like this. The lack of HD support, coupled with its Gamecube 1.5 hardware, is really showing its age at this point.

Games are still going to be the problem though. Outside of Nintendo, whose main franchises are almost always fantastic, the quality of games on the Wii is just awful. Which, I guess, just goes to show you that if you design a cheap system, you get cheap games.

Quality of games was indeed awful (fucking mario kart, the amount of abuse against CPU opponents when 1st place is horrid, I only say this because i was playing it this weekend) but however, is it undeniable that it worked for the market of more casual gamers and/or (especially) family, who don't care too much about the quality but rather the playability of the games?

I was waiting for this generation's F-Zero to come out on it, so if there's a Wii2 now looks like we won't be seeing 1 anytime soon, and it better come out on Wii2, it better rock, and it BETTER BE HARDCORE.

I'm skeptical. I mean, would you really need "inside information" to take a valid and educated guess that something like Blu-Ray and HD support would be on Nintendo's next system? This all just sounds like information that anyone with half a brain could have pulled out of their ass and stamped a "release date" on.

Also, announcing a console a month before it's release and attempting to use viral marketing on something that's that involved of a purchase for most people? I smell bullshit and I'll believe this when Nintendo makes an announcement.

Can you read lol? It's due in a year if its true. If they couple this with some motion sensor improvement I could see this being true, especially with the xbox motion sensor shit due next year?

Guess that's proof this is fake because they aren't gonna wait 1 month since their entire fanbase is soccer moms now that wouldn't know shit about it 1 month beforehand.

Isn't this a bit early for a release without any real info from the big N? It seems fake to me but only time will tell I suppose. I am concerned for the price more than anything heh

I kind of take it with a grain of salt, but the source is (reportedly) a credible one that's provided accurate inside info in the past, so I think there's at least a chance that this is true, even if the specifics change a little bit. I don't own a Wii and probably wouldn't buy a Wii2 anyway, but I just think it's interesting considering some of the other stories I've read in the past week about how Nintendo says they'll be the first out with the next console and all kinds of secret projects.

The only thing I like about it is the fact that it will have Blu-ray, which I think will really help the Blu-ray market, considering soccer moms and grandparents are much more likely to buy a Wii2 over a PS3 or other standalone Blu-ray player.

by 2010 bluray players will be cheap enough that buying a 250+ system won't make sense the way buying a ps3 did when bluray players were the same price or more expensive so I doubt that will be a real selling point, especially when any hack at best buy/child of the grandparents/soccer moms will tell them ps3 is the best bluray player
