Writing a history essay

k, so i have a writing essay test on friday, and was wondering if any of you have any advice on writing a good history essay(topic is spanish american war). If its of any help, i got a 95% on my last test, but i was more confident on the civil war than i was the SPAM war. if any of you have some good advice for this kind of thing(besides say study, cause im doing that already) I'd really appreciate it :D

Why do you need to make it stand out at better than a 95%? Unless if you cheated on the exam and have no idea why you got a 95%, I'd say you know everything you need for the next essay.

I dont cheat, i just know that sometimes my introductions to essays are kinda shaky when it comes to stuff like this, and just came here wondering if anyone had any helpful tips for not making your intro look nice, and not shaky.

Seriously if you need actual help specific areas to help in would be useful, maybe a sample essay with examples of your writing where you think you are weak. We are not going to research the subject for you and there are tons of little generic hints on how to write a good essay depending on the style of writing the teacher demands.

What kind of essay will it be? What areas do you think you are weak in? Do you have specific questions?

Otherwise this just feels like another "do my homework BG" thread.

Edit: Specifically intros be concise, to the point, have a good thesis statement to start with and build your premise for the essay on that.

Argumentative essay, Comparative Essay, Descriptive, Evaluation, Narrative?

Types of Essays

You can write so many different types of essays about historical events. And depending on what type of essay it is you will write very different introductions and set up a different structure.

Edit: If you don't know the question to be asked and the type of essay required the best thing you can do is prepare yourself as much as possible with knowledge of the subject and then use whatever writing skills you already have to do the best you can. In my experience most history class teachers in high school really only wanted expository type essays where you basically are writing down raw facts about the event and the structure is much less important than your grasp of understanding of the subject.

History essays are the easiest thing ever to write, you can't possibly fail them if you have any sort of knowledge about the material and are above an 8th grade writing ability.

Really, it's just not possible to fail them if you have met the above criteria unless you're aiming to fail.

its 4 questions and you choose one, 1-2 are usually analysis questions, and the other 2 are compare/contrast and one is usually an opinion question. The question i answered was "what were the strategies that the North and South incorporated? also include the role of women, blacks and civilians in these strategies and how they were used."

So you want to set it up as an argumentative essay. In that type of essay you write a good to-the-point thesis statement which should state the question asked and your main stance to be argued. This should be relatively short. Then you set up your essay so each paragraph is an argument for your position which starts with another statement of your position followed by facts to follow up and support your stance.

Really The above poster is correct, history essays are the easiest. The teacher is usually less concerned with the intricacies of your essay writing ability and more interested in how well you know the subject and how well you use your knowledge to support your argument.

God I am so fucking bored I hate working this late. At least they feed us when we work late...
