    Aion getting pussified

    Greetings, Daevas!

We’ve heard your feedback that the experience curve can be steep in certain levels of Aion, and over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been evaluating how we want to address this issue to provide for smoother character progression. While we’re committed to providing a permanent solution, our long-term plans require development time. As part of that process, we are implementing a temporary enhancement so that you can feel immediate benefits that we’re excited to be rolling out this weekend.

To aid you in your travels we will be implementing double experience weekends over the next three weeks. These bonus weekends will affect characters levels 1–35. This includes crafting and gathering experience as well. After the upcoming three weekends, we plan on hosting bonus experience weekends once or twice a month. We want to make it easier for you to experience what Aion has to offer for your characters after level 35.

We are also adding a few permanent benefits with this week’s patch. Soul Healing will be less expensive for characters of all levels, and we’re increasing the experience bonus that Energy of Repose bestows for levels 20–44.

While the above is an interim solution, we will be addressing the character progression experience curve with a sizeable patch next year. We look forward to hearing your comments, and we hope you have fun during these bonus weekends. Make sure to tell your friends —the more the merrier!

I couldn't give a shit about any of that apart from cheaper Soul Healing. That's awesome! I agree though, it really isn't that bad at present. So what if it takes a while to get to 50? I hear a lot of people compaining at a lack of end game content...so why would I want to rush to the cap?

Awesome. I just hit 23 last night. 35 here I come. I can't wait to grief Elyos bastards as much as I have been in Morheim lately.

Good thing I held off on leveling more crafts on alts, sounds like 1 craft from 1-399 will probably get you from 10-30 under double EXP bonus, and not even have to grind at all past 10 just to be able to get expert and level 30 daeva armor quests.

Overall I don't think the double EXP thing is a good idea though. I think it is already easy enough to get to 50, but it could be that I am just used to FFXI which had really slow progression back when I started. I'd much rather have seen a lot more quests added, especially in the "dead zones" that give very little quest exp.

NC does exp weekends in City of Heros/Villains, and has made major adjustments to making the grind softer in L2. This really shouldn't surprise anyone.

no but being nearly identical to wow = wow.

It's called World of Wingcraft for a reason.

Not that this needs to go any further into nonsensical comparisons, but...

Having played WoW for quite a bit on four 80s (and still now), and also having played Aion since about the release date with a mid-40 and a few in the 30s.... I can honestly say that WoW and Aion really aren't anything alike in any aspects of PvE/PvP/leveling gameplay and challenge. I'd find it hard to believe any player 'seasoned' in both games would say much differently as well.

Reducing exp required/difficulty of some aspect of the game isn't a 'WoW feature.' Games and MMOs in particular have been doing this forever... it's called appeasing the customer base. There are more people that are getting disgruntled and they're losing subscriptions of because of the grind, than the number they're gaining because of the appeal of a grind. Common sense dictates you'd do something about that.

You can look at any two nearly identical products for a long enough period of time and start to notice discrepancies.

But at face value they are extremely similar.

Quick! Everyone onto the "OMG AION IS EXACTLY LIKE WOW" bandwagon.

Same can be said about any MMO comparison on the market right now. What's your point? lol

Also, the difference is you don't need to look at Aion and WoW for a long period to see differences... the major differences are pretty apparent right away. Aion is actually far more like FFXI than WoW from my experiences thus far. The economy, the grind, the interactions between players, the value of crafting and money, the value of PvE/vendor drops, etc, are way more like FFXI than like WoW. In fact, none of those areas share any similarities to how they are in WoW at all.

Can we quit with the aion vs wow shit? It's been done to death.

on topic, maybe I'll actually get around to leveling my sorc now; I can't stand grinding on that shit lol. I'm way too spoiled from my sm and glad.

Also notice that they've mainly been targetting alts with these adjustments (increased exp for lower levels, more amulets, ect). 45-50 has been left pretty much the same, which is good.

Aion is like Super Mario Bros.
Both games have jumping and bad guys you need to kill and different areas that look differently and progressively get harder.

Basic gameplay? That's about as general and non-specific as you can get. You can say the basic gameplay between any two games are similar.

Push button, bad guy takes damage, push button more, bad guy dies. Rinse and repeat. Where those buttons are located or how they're arranged in your UI really doesn't change that gameplay.

Also, I'd argue the gameplay similarities drawn a line at DPS. Ask any healer that has played both WoW and Aion and they'll tell you it's completely different; healing in Aion is extremely boring and mindless in comparison to WoW. Likewise, tanking in Aion is a completely different story compared to WoW (tanking is actually more like it was in FF). Even DPS is pretty different.

EDIT: Wait, so... you're basing your 'it's just like WoW' theory completely on the fact they have similar UIs? <.< There's so much incorrect with that assumption I'm just going to shut up before this gets derailed any further.

Aion DPS: Push button. Push new button that shows up. Wait for first button to get off CD.

This little formula makes Aion all the more mind numbing to level up. I don't care how long it takes me to get to cap if i have fun getting there.

I'd agree with Ruke, I've only been playing a few days just got 20 but the game seems alot more like FFXI than WoW. But the real reason I'm posting here is to tell Ruke to update his LJ. That being said I like Aion because it seems to be a good mix of what's been done in MMO's and some original ideas that make it fresh but still appeals to my desire to play the older style like FFXI/older WoW had. And again update your LJ.
