I have no point to this thread except to let everyone outside of CT know that CT is dying.
People are leaving it in droves for a variety of reasons, starting with complete corruption of the gov't years ago, and now the after effects are hitting.
Half of the state is rich, but that's old money rich, and many of the rich people have listed Florida as their primary residence, meaning CT hasn't been getting taxes from them.
And then there's those close enough to NY that they can work there, and live in CT. These people are fine.
It's the rest of the state that's in trouble. I grew up in an upper middle class area, that's now on the verge of collapse as all the jobs have been moving out of the state bit by bit.
The million dollar homes near my house are on the market for $200k.
My mom's home (worth about $150 now) has 8k in property taxes (in comparison to my CA home is $360k and I have 4k property taxes). She spends about $1k-$2k a month on heat in the winter.
My sister's house, and many in the area is now waterlogged, and it is estimated over $10k in repairs are required. They are trying to file for bankruptcy and move to FL, because their taxes are over $10k a year, they can't afford the repairs, and know no one would buy the home even if they did fix it.
CT is second, only behind NY, for the most taxes collected per residence:

CT spent all the teacher pension on other items, but somehow are paying the teachers out of another fund, but many teachers are uncertain if they'll keep getting paid and others who are working don't want to stop out of fear they won't get any money.
This is not nearly limited to my family, but it's to give a glimpse on what is going on over there.
