    Vacuums

So our old Eureka finally just bit the dust. Since we have pets we've been looking for awhile now for a reliable vac with a lot of power. Especially pet hair.

I've been trying to avoid Oreck, and Dyson for awhile now due to mediocre reviews vs. price. From what I have seen via some simple research. The Bissell "Pet Hair Eraser Dual-Cyclonic Upright Vacuum Cleaner" seems to be really great. I hear the attachment is decent, but the overall power for picking up animal hair is excellent.

Anyone that could lead me in the right direction?

Also to add, we are looking for an upright. Even though I know overall "suitcase" designed ones are overall stronger, and more reliable.

http://www.consumersearch.com/vacuum-cleaners - does that help? I generally refer to that site to get a starting point on purchases and then look for individual reviews elsewhere since I'm too cheap for a Consumer Reports subscription.

I know you said you're trying to stay away from a Dyson but they really are amazing. The price sucks but you get what you pay for. When I was living at home, my mom got one. She had at most 5 cats at one point and they all shed like crazy. The Dyson was the only one that would pick it all up reliably. The furniture attachment was awesome too. Destroyed all the hair those fuckers would leave around.

Any idea what model it is she has? I heard the "Animal" vac-dyson is horrible. So I'm wondering if she just has one of the higher-end ones.

Let me look around for it. If anything, I will just text her in the morning. She has had it for a while (4+ years).

Edit: Just browsing around Dyson's website and I don't see it. I will update tomorrow after I find out what she has.

I've had a Dyson Animal DC14 for a few years now and it's been the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had.
On that note, though, from what I remember of my days working in retail, Bissell are actually a damn good make and you probably wouldn't regret picking one up.

idk about the Dysons, my bf's mum had one a few years back and it was the worst thing ever. I think it kept breaking and the piece that she was supposed to use on her wooden floors ended up scratching the crap out of it

Seems really hit or miss. Try to get some deal where you can bring it back if it's not suited to your needs.

I've had a dyson DC14 "animal" for a couple years now. I honestly think it is the best vacuum i've ever owned. The only problem I've had with it is constantly having to clean hair of the roller because of my sheding ass cats. Other than that, love it, and glad I spent a few extra bux to get one. I found a good deal on mine, and got a bunch of extra stuff free.

Only way to fly. Thing's older than I am, weighs three hundred pounds and is almost impossible to maneuver up the stairs, but speaking as an expert on sucking, this thing is unparalleled.

I've had a Bissell for about a year now, although it's a step or two down from the model you're talking about (only myself living here and no pets so i didn't need anything too fancy), but it's been working great for me. One of the upright bagless designs and all that, and it came with all sorts of crazy-ass attachments I'll probably never use.

Based on my limited experience with the brand though I'd certainly say they're worth a shot.

DO NOT GET THAT VACUUM! I have it and it's the worst vacuum I've ever owned, the brushes get hung up on the carpet constantly and it takes at least 2-3 times going over an area before it's clean.

I own the vacuum you're asking about and it definitely does the job. I was having the same problem as the above poster where it would hardly pick up anything from the unit itself and the attachments. Once I took it apart and unclogged it from all the cat hair, dust, and dirt it's been running good as new.

I have a dyson at home (think it's the dc-14), paid $250 for it and my fiancee loves it. I'll have to dig it out (and scare the crap out of my cats at the same time) though to confirm the model #.

    I loved my Roombas but both I had have had some kind of malfunction to where they just kind of work but not really. Last I checked it would cost too much for me to get them repaired, but if you get one with a good service plan maybe they'd be worth it ^^;

I got a Dyson DC18 slim on ebay from an authorized refurb seller for like $230 shipped or something like that. I'm happy with it. When you see things like 'animal' it means the attachments it comes with, they're the same actual vacuum as an fyi (dc17 animal vs regular).

I live in a smaller townhouse and the slim fits in the spot my old vac was stored. Canister is just fine for me, and can shut off the roller when doing tile. Pretty nifty. Only have had it for a few months now but so far I'm happy with it.
