Paying someone else's bills?

So, everyone has suggested to me that I just go ahead and get the power turned on myself. It's been almost a month and a half since I've had power at home and I do have money for it, but I figured since it's not in my name, I don't have an account number, ect ect, that I wouldn't be able to do it.

Would I just be able to call, give them the address and pay over the phone? Or does it not work that way? I figured it did not because of privacy issues and anyone could just call up and find out who owes how much on what and how far in debt they are.

If its a shitty roommate, you can always just call up the power company...... explain the situation, pay it off and have the company send you a receipt showing you paid it off and then turn around and could sue the other person for your money back.

If you can't manage to pay it over the phone, just find a bill and mail a check.

Well it's a long story. I've lived w/ my uncle and his wife the past 7ish years and I always go to my grandma's house for summer vacation. I was gone this summer, and something happened between him and her and he moved out to a friend's house. So basically he got tired of paying for her shit since she's had about a year worth of employment since I've been here, doesn't go to school, doesn't do anything but sit AND he wasn't even living there. So, he just stopped paying. She moved out but now I'm stuck there no power/water lol it's been a month and a half now as of this coming Wednesday.

My uncle gets the bills directly, I think they send it to his work, so I'd have no record of that, an account number or anything of the sort. All I have is the address to where I live, his first and last name. i don't have any other info than that.

Yea, I'm fucked then. I'm under the impression that he just plain doesn't want it to go back on, given the fact that my grandma sent him $300 to do the shit last week and it's still not on. I was talking to her the other night and she was surprised that the power wasn't on and was like "I sent him money last week to do it, he said it'd be on by Monday"

Well if your living there by yourself now, call up the power company tell them the prior tenant moved out and you are now living there..... open up a brand new account with the power company to get new service and not have to pay overdue fees

No clue, haven't been able to get a straight answer out of him in a month+. She was out on day 1. She was out so damn fast, she was gone before I even noticed the power was out to begin with. On top of that he even got a restraining order on her so she couldn't come back.

idk how it works where you live but couldn't you just go to the power company and say you are moving in and would like the power turned on? if it works at least you wouldn't have to pay any outstanding bill

Just call the power company as others said, we can only guess what you can do. They are the ones who will tell you just what you can and can not do.

My power company (ran by city, not independent contractor) will let my pay my bill by address when I forget to bring my bill to the payment center.
