Was wondering if they would have some dedicated NA/EU servers this go around or are they going to be catering to JA players again.
your opinions?

They're going to avoid the potential cesspools and have universal servers iirc.
They never catered to JPs. JPs just got naturally better ping because of their location.
This has been stated soo many times they said they where keeping the game with universal servers like they did with ff11.
no,no, and they cater the JP players in as much as the servers are located there and the maintenance will be done in JP night... but that goes w/ the territory. But, let me break it down to you... technology has come a long way since FFXI and servers being hosted in Japan won't make any noticeable diff to NA players unless your connecting via a shitty connection
Devs. said all servers will go live at once, and will be grouped together like FFXI was.
Only bit that does raise eyebrows for me is the fact that me and the husband are both in the beta - and he was an NA FFXI importer, therefore had to make an NA square enix account when the tokens etc came out - and the NA dev forums are completely different to the EU ones - thought they might have grouped all the English language ones together.
because playing Korean Aion from California gave me about.. 50ms... and those servers were located well across the seas. and its been stated in various mmo press releases how server location has less to do w/ latency as it does your provider.
This is for beta testing since each is a diff localization and what may be issue in one version isnt in the other,
Good enough, then. Never had a problem with it in WOW, save for servers blowing up on the odd month, but overseas is another thing entirely.
What would Final Fantasy 14 be without some kind of auto-translate function! (It better have one!)
thx for the info...havn't played XI in years
I can see how its cheaper for SE to have international servers but I didn't like this myself in FFXI. I didn't play with many JP players on FFXI, they seemed pretty xenophobic for the most part, but you already know that if you played XI.
I did play the FFXI beta and it was NA only which I much rather preferred because when you send someone a tell you know they speak your language. I rather be on a server where I have like 100% of the population speak English not a server where 50% of the population doesn't want anything to do with you and basically ignores most interaction with you. If they did have region specific servers I could see having more people to do stuff with.
I was getting kind of pissed off when I asked some JP people if they wanted to do the latest WotG missions in FFXI nope they didn't want to join cause we are lol gaijin and don't know how to play.
You do that, and let me know how it turns out when there are only a handfull of people online outside of NA Prime-time.
The thing I don't get is people saying JP players are Xenophobic when really it's just a language barier that some might not want to have to put up with when doing a highly coordinated event.
JP :"Hey guys lets go do the last CoP mission, thats incredibally hard unless we all know what we are doing and can communicate"
NA: "Instert garbled giberish here"
JP:"Well were off to a good start aren't we?"
NA:"Giberish"
The same goes vice-versa, there is a reason most endgame linkshells stuck to single language, communication. NA players are just as bad anyways, I have had JP friends "I'm NA by the way" get shafted from parties and missions because of racial stigma. It's a two way street.
More to the point having merged servers is the best case scenario for them, due to them getting the best bang for there buck server wise, it's being used more constantly instead of 8 hours a day, there are few lowtimes on merged servers allowing players with playtimes that vary from the norm have people to interact with.
At least you can get denied by JP players instead of shout into nothingness all alone.
Jpn players are good detemined players. i see absolutely no question about internatrion Servers. Square-Enix went well with the FFXI-Server tactic and that should be enough to proof, that it will work again.
In any modern MMO there are always people who play late night and in the hours where less people are active. Since the US has 3 time zones its even less of a problem. You always have people playing in the night maybe its because they have a job that only allows them to play at that time or have nothing better to do.
I loved how the servers had no down time.
I don't think there was any excess xenophobia either. I played in several NA shells, and one JP shell. I got along pretty well with people in every shell I was in. There's some xenophobic people... but if you think that's exclusively limited to japanese players, you're probably a xenophobic person yourself.
And if we are going to sterotype things... I honestly had many more sudden leaves from NA parties than JP ones. As well as more horrific players. Not to say this didn't happen on both sides, but I think there were more really young (or just irresponsible) NA players around, on average.
And then, yeah. Like the post two or so above said, communication is a fairly important thing, whether for important HNM talk, or the simply talking to people in your xp party about whatever for fun. Preferring to play with people you can talk to is perfectly reasonable.
