    How can I boost my computer's graphics even more?

    Well I used FFXICalculator to make FFXI look nice but it doesnt look as nice as other peoples screenshots, so i'm just looking for a way to boost my PC performance even more lol.

    Build:

    MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-790FXTA-UD5 AM3 AMD 790FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

    GFX: POWERCOLOR AX5870 1GBD5-MDHG Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor

    Harddrives: Intel X25-V SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) / Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

    Memory: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G2000LV6GK

    CPU Fan: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler

    also my case has a lot of fans and is pretty cool.

    Try running windower's Launcher_Gui and set your resolution to something like:

    1024x768 (if you want to play windowered)

    Set your BG resolution to 2048 x 2048

    Set Mips to 0

    See if that improves your visuals at all? It may have nothing to do with your computer.

    I used this guide, but I put the max settings to 2000+ x 2000+. This was with a crappy old PC and an even more crappy video card.

    Right above that line it says "game_forceambientlight 1" and change it to 0 to turn off ambient light by default. I'm not sure what those variables are.

    I -think- the problem here is Photobucket. It's auto-resizing your uploads. You need to tell it not to do that.

    If those are the temps you're getting while in game that's basically telling you that all that hardware you have in there is basically sitting on it's ass doing nothing because FFXI is a pretty damn old game at this point and you probably couldn't even push that level of hardware with it if you tried.

    go into your videocard settings (Catalyst program I believe for radeon?) And look for an option to saturate colors if FF is looking washed out
    Also raising/lowering Gamma in those same settings helps

    I use Nvidia so I can't guide you exactly

    In your Windower/scripts folder, open your "init" file in notepad:
    //Set game variables
    game_forceambientlight 1
    to

    //Set game variables
    game_forceambientlight 0
    You can also unbind the F11 bit completely if you change

    bind f11 game_forceambientlight
    to

    //bind f11 game_forceambientlight
    Press Ctrl+F if you have trouble finding any of these in the init file.

    Bear in mind also that some of the better looking shots are usually touched up in photoshop too

    Duplicate the layer

    With the top layer:
    Gaussian Blur
    Set Blending Mode to Overlay
    Apply "Sharpen" if it looks better

    Does wonders

    Sorry to hijack but somewhat related.

    I'm running 1680x1050 front with 3360x2100 3D background. I've noticed that people suggested running 2048x2048 3d settings; is that the max and I won't see any benefit running it the way I am?

    Correct - 2048x2048 is the max background res supported by the game. It would be higher had the game been designed around a newer version of DirectX buuuuut.....
