    Connecting to FFXI (On Campus)

I can connect to the game fine over my own wi-fi but when I connect to the campus wi-fi i keep getting the error about network connections (POL-1160) when i'm obviously connected (I'm posting this from my laptop on their network). Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

I would get the same. I found out my school blocked ports, etc. for FFXI and WoW to be played >.> so that's probably why.

No idea what the problem was but I had the same problem when I played at my University. Had to be hard-wired in order to play. Hope you can figure out what the deal is.

The thing is I have seen people playing wow on campus so i'm really not sure what the deal is.

I can log into ffxi and wow on my school's network/wifi but they do have protocols setup to watch for any P2P types of networks. Funny thing is people can log into WoW and play just fine but ffxi it considers P2P and will block the port for the program when it does its check every 5 mins.

    Problem solved.

There is even a page in the FAQs on Your Freedom about setting it up with FFXI. You can get the service for free but you have to pay for better speeds / unlimited time.

Also, the POL viewer / character selection screen uses TCP/IP but the actual game once you log in uses UDP. It took me quite a while to find a program for tunneling which could support both.

Similar to what I use to connect to FFXI and Hulu from Korea. Slows your connection speed by quite alot, but it's the only solution sometimes for connecting to things that for some reason certain comapnies/government agencies don't want you to connect to.

This is the service I use, can get IP addresses from US, Europe, or even Hong Kong (I think FFXI might be blocking the Hong Kong one now though >.>):

Contact your IT dept. then and inform them of a possible range block. 99.9% of the time its blocked by default for piece of mind. If people are playing WoW on your campus. Unless they are douchebags, I'm sure they will be able to hook you up. To find out POL/FFXI's IP ranges, just google.
