    20 Hours In, My Take

So I am now 20 hours into the game and it seems that there's still quite a bit to go. I am quite happy that the game has at least lasted 20 hours and obviously this is due to me fighting everything and not running from stuff with a little running back and forth for some harder enemies. This game is simply amazing and I think it was undeserving of all the 8s all these game reviewers gave it. It is definitely a 9. Almost makes me think if these reviewers even played through the entire game before the review. Probably not. I give this game a 9.5 for everything and of course it being the first Final Fantasy on a new console. Again Square Enix has done a fine job.

As for the game, I'm in Nautilus now. Ha, well I'm not going to spoil plot but everything in Nautilus is so awesome. Can't wait to play more of the game today. I probably played about 13 hours yesterday after work. It's so addicting! And yeah the game is linear but there's nothing wrong with that. I actually like this format once in a grand while after playing all the open, non-linear RPG/MMOs. And it's definitely worth the money. At a movie theater average ticket cost is 7.00 and it's already been 20 hours gameplay so entertainment value beats watching 10, 2 hour long movies. I am quite content with my purchase money wise and series wise that I have been following since Final Fantasy 1.

If you do not have this game right now. You fail life! Don't fail life! Buy Final Fantasy XIII NOOOOOW!

I have to agree with everything above! I'm also at the 20 hour mark right now and I'm LOVING IT! The linearity of it all pissed me off at the beginning, but after I got over myself I've really enjoyed it. Also, I just got to the part where everything opens up, so there's lots to do now!
IMO: Best FF since 7... maybe best ever by the time I'm through with it.

Its fresh and a style I have not played yet. Overall I am having a lot of fun with the game so far, at the 19hour mark almost so it should open up for me in about 2hrs^^

Only 13 hours in myself, but I agree with everyone above. The linearity is nowhere near as bad a deterrent to playing the game as people were making it out to be. Its a new way of gameplay and I love it. The battles are awesome, and so far they've been dividing it up enough between characters to keep them all very interesting.

The best part is after not understanding the battle system for the longest, it all the sudden clicked and I have been getting 4, 5 stars on everything since. I agree with the comments made before me, and at first I hated it, im about 18 or so hours in and now i LOVE it.

I am still at the crystallized lake, but I am already starting to fall in love with it. I am only 5 hours in.

    Pros: Beautiful. Rich characters. Chocofro.

Cons: Paradigm shift is a little lame. I wish I was forced to have more control over every action. I am a micro-manager like that though. I felt the same with gambits in FF12. Linear.

Paradigms dont start to really shine till after the 10-15 hour mark. Trust me, hang in there, you are in for a treat.

the first parts of teh game are nice, personally its not the "linear" stuff that I didnt like, its more endgame related; the "hunts" being too easy, no real "secret" thing, but above all, upgrading equipement and getting weapons to max level is absurdly long /grind and unnecessary ( especially equipement, there is no real use to them lol).

So far i think its a great game, but sadly i don't think it lives up to the "Final Fantasy" name. It feels so much more like a random dungeon crawler its almost non-stop fighting and cutscenes. Almost makes you wish for a break at some points where as great final fantasys in the past always had some type of mini game or diversion to break you off the path of fight -> story -> fight -> story.

It would've been awsome if you could do random stupid stuff in nautalis.

How do you think mini-games could possibly be justified in this game? The whole premise of the story is keep on keepin' on, not go fuck around while the end of the world waits.

Everyone wants your party dead. There's no where to even DO mini games.

    This.

When you get to Gran Pulse, the game opens up a lot more, and it becomes even more enjoyable. To me it feels as if the game JUST started when I got to Gran Pulse. At least, thats the general feeling it gave me.
