HDMI Problem?

Im going to explain this as well as I can. Hopefuly I can get some help with this.

Basically, while im in the XMB on my PS3, the video will cut in and out in about 5-10 minute intervals, its been doing this for a few weeks now. It's not a normal res reset, it cuts out with a static sound and then comes back it. Before it only did it in the XMB, latley its done this a few times during games and it didnt prior. Ive tested it out on two TV's (both pretty new) and it still does it. It seems to me like I need a new HDMI cable, it's about 2 1/2 years old. There will be times when it doesnt do it at all, but Im thinking if it were the tv or the console it would do it all the time and during games/movies.

I don't know if it would be the cable if it only used to do it in the XMB. If you have another HDMI device try "borrowing" its cable and see, but I am guessing since it was confined to the XMB for a long time, it is probably a console related issue.

Try a new hdmi cable, 10 dollars online and performs just as good as the 40 dollar+ ones. When the video cuts out unplug the hdmi cable wait a few seconds and plug it back in for a possible quick fix. I don't think the probelm is anything major, probably just a common probelm that other PS3 users have aswell.

Just need a little clarification, Does it start blinking real fast or does the video cut out completely? Does it do this when you first try starting up a game or a movie or when you've been playing a game/movie for awhile? As stated, some other PS3 user might have your problem so it'll be easier to find their feedback knowing exactly what and when it's happening.

Most the time its in the XMB as I stated above, it doesnt blink, it cuts out with static and then comes back in, in 5-10 minute intervals. During games when it actually does it, it'll pop out and come back in maybe once every five hours and then sometimes it'll do it once an hour, its really erratic.

I have a similar type of problem with my PS3, though I think it's related to the PS3 + receiver since I don't think it happens when connected directly to the TV (at least, I don't remember it). For me it's no on an interval, just random flicker/dropout.

Haven't found a solution yet, going to try updating firmware in receiver n' such. Tried several cables and rotating ports already to no avail.

I noticed my ps3 is doing the same thing last night after watching a movie. It only seems to happen every once in a great while. I hope it doesn't get worse. My ps3 is only about 4 months old.

Thanks seph, just ordered a couple of the orange cables, basically 4 bucks each.
