I know the project got waxed a few months back due to SE sending over a cease and desist letter, but you can still find the client and everything you need via torrents. I haven't played it in over 6 months, but from what I heard the latest release had some quests available, combat and crafting.

Anyone know of any active Project XI servers still around or would be interested in starting something up?

A lot of the formulas/game mechanics are server-side only. Not ever going to happen unless a plethora of life is leaked from SE.

Its sad but it was the wizbot guy who got this shut down. Its not gone fully as people made torrents of it. All you need to do is understand a little info to makeing the server.

I don't even care about it being a dead/dying game and cocaine is a hell of a drug so I see why people are still playing. Just that the games mechanics don't lend it to private server play(imo) because of the delicate nature of the economy, how social based the game is, etc etc. But I guess its the internet so let me throw in an ad hominem attack kbai.

It was fairly stable. Basically as-is the game could be written to how SE has it *almost. If someone could've spent all the time finishing the LUA scripts, it would've been fine.

As released though, heh. Well it worked well enough.

I was only just getting into the private server thing as it got shut down... While I was able to set up and run my own server it was very far from being complete, or anything close to working like the official version. Too bad, as it was really coming along nicely despite how much it was missing. Wish I knew anything about coding on such a large scale... it'd be great to do some modifications to the last version they had and continue with the project.

I really just wish they hadnt shut down the project xi wiki... so much information, gone!

So I was right about it from the get-go. I think it'd be easier to get a job and make $12/mo than it would be to get the project completed and populate a single server enough for the game to even function.
