    Average AMD CPU Temp~

So I recently upgraded my CPU from Dual Core to Quad Core ~ I know AMD usually runs a little hotter than Pentiums but I'm wanting to know at what temp(C) should I start to really worry? I've been using CPU Temp to monitor my average temp since install (Last Tuesday) -- It hangs around 47-56 C w/FFXI running (Fan RPMs @ 3000) -- The 56 was dual boxing -- This slightly worries me as my last CPU tests (dual core) never got above 52 (even while dual boxing) ~ So I'm wanting to make sure I'm not going to fry my new CPU (More cores = hotter temps?) ~

    Current CPU = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103471

Also where in the world/how can I adjust my fan speed? -.-; Speedfan looks a bit intimidating for the newb + cant find an exact 'manual' on how to set it up. Bios doesnt have an option cept to automatically detect when to increase RPMs.

As a side note ~ PC Is on top of a desk -- away from all other items except my LCD Monitor -- My house never gets hotter than 65F (I hate being hot :3) ~

CPU can handle much more than that, I don't know what would be limit but it's normal if it's hotter than previous one.

    More wattage = more heat

As for the fans... I have no idea :D

I have this on my main fans

Direct control of the fan, really useful. Costs like $5 / ea

Yeah, get a fan speed controller. It's the best for controlling the speeds of your fans, some can control up to 6 fans i think and maybe you can make 1 dial control 1 or more fans, idk.
    Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-172-_-Product

75C is cutting it really close i think but should still be safe, just keep it under 70C to be safe. What do you have it overclocked to or is that stock? Also, which heatsink?

Speedfan isn't as intimidating as it looks when you first fire it up. No reason to buy a fan controller, as it does nothing but gives you a knob to use instead of software.

Did you apply some thermal paste such as Artic Silver? Not that your CPU will blow if you don't but it can/will shave off a few degrees and is worth it on the long run.

No, if you're not planning to push it to its (true)limits there's little to no point, but still few degrees fresher!

After I fully understand the whole overclock/better heatsink/fan process i'll OC....maybe...;3 I cant afford to replace CPUs on a whim ~ I have to plan/save yada so I get scared of the whole OC process

speedfan seems confusing, i have like 4 fans running in tower but it only shows fan1 running and the rest not :/ plus my CPU is running at like 70~73. bought a big freezer heatsink but when i put my pc together i forgot to put the part behind the mobo and just ended up using stock heatsink lol

It wont show anything but your CPU fan if that's all thats hooked up to the motherboard. It's software, not magic. If you want to control tower fan speed, you'll have to hook them up to the motherboard as well.

I'm not familiar with that specific processor, but 57C doesn't seem like a stretch at all to me.

I know a lot of the AMD's have recommended temperatures that are lower then the Intel's I'm familiar with but even still 60-70 is what I normally shoot for if I'm going for a usable OC.

If you're concerned with it use ANYTHING other then your stock HSF. Xigmatek, Tuniq, thermalright ultras, or even just the arctic 7 are all good. Just make sure they'll fit your case.

I'm using a Phenom II 955 which is the 3.2Ghz version of your processor and it runs at 39C idle.

When I play Dragon Age or Dual box FFXI it goes up to 51-54C

I use Probe II to monitor all my temperatures but that's an ASUS thing. If you have an ASUS motherboard I would suggest using that instead of Speedfan.

Do you have cool n quiet on?

I think your reading it wrong because in the screenshot you posted, it's 32C across all 4 cores of your cpu, which are very good temperatures.

I have the same CPU and also using stock heatsink/fan, but I use Arctic5 silver compound stuff. Also after reviewing different methods of applying paste, I used the single line down the middle method I believe. I previously spread it all over and used a credit card to smooth/scrape off excess, but that was too much and supposedly leaves air pockets. As a reference, I idle around 36C, 43ish dualboxing

Also about overclocking, it's fun to push stuff to the limit, but sometimes you don't even see the difference in performance unless you run a benchmark test or count the fps numbers from games. I used to OC mine to 3.4ghz I think, just for fun, but once winter ended... my PC started overheating to the point of it crashing.

I do have an Asus board ~ and I use CoreTemp to monitor CPU Temp atm (which is interesting because sitting in the bios over night my CPU never got over 38C) ~ I do not have cool n quiet on ~
