    Records - Worth anything?

So my parents are cleaning out their basement. There's a box of ~100 records. Would any of these be worth anything?
None of them are shrink wrap, but I'm pretty sure they work (yes, there is a record stereo system in the basement, but I think there's a seller interested in that).

I'll buy the lot for $10(most the ones you listed go for $0.50 to $1 in all honesty), totally serious.

Records are the shit. My dad's got like 300+ records with a bunch of duplicates that are still sealed in plastic. His cabinet is sweet cuz he alphabetized everything, and to top it off his record player is in mint condition and hooked up to surround sound.

Always check the value of a relic before tossing or selling it a ridiculously low price. I was about to toss out a case of old baseball/basketball cards and found two rookie cards and a few others easily touching $100.00 +. Really glad I bothered to pick up a Beckett to check.

Same thing happened to me the other day. Went through some old old ass baseball cards in my closet I got when I was in elementary school. Found a rookie Barry Bonds and a rookie Mark McGuire that were both worth quite a bit of money on ebay.

It makes me cringe hearing my dad talk about some of the stuff he had as a kid that was thrown out by his father at some point without his knowledge. Comic books and baseball cards that would be worth 100's of thousands today.

Since the 90s and the days of sky-high vinyl prices, things have changed. Records worth anything more than a few dollars would be things like acetate pressings (unspun or at least not scratched on), exceedingly rare limited-edition runs, pre-WWII albums or recording with historical significance, or unique manufacturer errors. Think the kind of thing that make certain stamps or coins collectible and rare.

If it's a band you have heard of, there's a good chance it's worth nothing. If they pressed more than a thousand copies, it can't be worth much as there's not much "collectible" about one of 150,000 copies or a record.

You can always donate them to goodwill or the Salvation Army, or some NPO that takes clothing, etc. donations and gets payed by the tonne. Just chuck them on your next trip to the municipal dump.

PS: I think the smaller records are singles. Those might be worth checking on price if it's something you don't recognize. Any "hit" song single won't be worth anything, unless there's something strange about your copy or edition (ie. some ultra-rare German edition of Dio's Holy Diver paired with a Whitney Houston B-Side, in the plastic, never been opened. That completely fictitious absurdity might be worth something to a collector.)

As far as used media goes, CONDITION IS EVERYTHING. Unless they're 'like new' or 'near fine' they're probably worth, as people mentioned, $.50 to $1.00. AGE DOES NOT NECESSITATE WORTH.

A few years ago I found the White Album, Sergeant Peppers, and Zeppelin I at a garage sale. All album were still sealed in the plastic. They are now resting peacefully in a safety deposit box. I'm kind of curious how much they would be worth now adays.

About $20-$30 based on 2 minutes of research.

    Seriously LPs are worth nothing.

That said I like the OP's parent's taste in music, and I'm totally serious that I'd buy the lot for $0.50 each or something.

For those particular albums it really depends on what editions they are. I know for the white album if it is a first run version then it could be worth quite a bit more.
