Jason Robinson, a football coach at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla., was forced to quit his job after sending an "explicit cell phone video" to his 20-year-old girlfriend, News4Jax.com reports. According to the article, the ex-coach sent the video to his girlfriend, who attends college 140 miles away at the University of Central Florida.

Her parents somehow got ahold of the clip, and her mother forwarded the lewd footage to the high school principal, who demanded that Robinson relinquish his position. Robinson, who is 32, is reportedly considering taking legal action against the college student's parents.

Robinson is not accused of committing a crime, and he says that his girlfriend was the only intended recipient of the video. Should the school be allowed to dismiss a coach for sending private video to his girlfriend, even if she is 20 years old?

This is sex-negative bullshit. Robinson is a consenting adult; Robinson's girlfriend is a consenting adult. And what consenting adults do on their own time—and with their own cell phones—is no one's business but their own.

Teachers are held to ridiculously high standards by parents and by administration. Case in point, before graduation from college with my B.A. in Elementary Education, a professor of mine gave our class a few pieces of advice. If you smoke, quit smoking since you won't get hired if you do. If you have a facebook, myspace, or any other type of social networking tool, delete it immediately.

The teacher shouldn't have been forced to give up his position because of sending explicit text messages to his own girlfriend who is above the legal age.

I've read further about this story and apparently the mother of the 20 year old girlfriend didn't just go to the principal of the school. She sent the pictures, which were apparently nekked pictures of the coach himself, to the rest of the faculty of the school and to whomever she could think of. I really hope the dude sues someone cause wow, this woman just destroyed his career.

I sent an email to the principal of the school telling her the dude deserved an apology from her, just as Dan Savage suggested.

Two consenting adults, both above 18, in a relationship and doing pretty much what every couple who are in the beginning stages of a relationship do nowadays - send nakkies of each other.
