    Upgrading My Rig

So, I want to upgrade a few things on my desktop PC and would like some recommendations. Here are my current specs:

    CPU: i7-920 (Stock // 2.67GHz)
Heat Sink: Using some crappy Zalman (Cost me $35 on NewEgg a year ago and I know it's better than stock but with my running FFXI on a decent summer day CPU's at 70-71C)
HDD: 500GB Seagate (Planning on getting an 80GB for $130 or a 160GB for $230 X-M Intel SSD within the next few weeks)
    MOBO: EVGA (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%20121-bl-e756)
    PSU: CoolMaster 700W
GPU: nVidia GTX 260 (Warm summer day and when my CPU's around 70-71, this thing's at 71-72C)
    RAM: 6GB DDR3 1066

    • I'm looking to overclock my CPU to 3.5-4GHz so I'll need a better heatsink.
    • Since I'll have an SSD for my OS soon, I'm thinking of better storage for my data. Currently I just have 2 1TB eHDDs with random data split betwene the 2. The one that I use the most is only about half full and the other that I rarely use only has 200GB or so left. That one's mainly ISOs, movies, and OS image backups. I'm looking to have some type of internal redundancy RAID. Or have a better idea?
    • PSU may need to be upgraded if I had 2 internal HDDs inside. Suggestions or is this fine?
    • My FF14 Benchmark was 3008 with my current setup.
    • I've heard nothing but good things about ATI cards but I've stayed with nVidia for the past few years mainly due to a couple years ago when I did try an ATI card and the current drivers were faulty and ATI hadn't fixed the issue within the couple months of their release. The Catalyst Control Center would restart itself thus crashing anything I'm playing that requires GPU. Anyway, safe to try now?

So ya I'm trying to upgrade my rig slowly over time. Any suggestions?

No need to upgrade PSU, a HDD is like 5-8W at most during use.

There is something wrong with your fitting of your heatsink btw, even stock cooler would keep it cooler than that just running ffxi...(come on FFXI doesn't even use 10% of your cpus power)

I'd reset the heatsink (you'll need fresh paste for this)

yeah, try resetting the heatsink before buying a new one. remove it, wipe it clean, use rubbing alcohol maybe to get it totally good, and then apply new paste, I use Arctic 5 silver. Also, look up videos on how to actually apply the paste. There's different methods, I saw a video with someone using plexiglass to simulate the heatsink. You could see exactly how the paste spreads, I think the best method was using a thin line down the middle. Using a credit card to spread it, or an X spread would leave bubbles. Arctic 5 was too thick for a single pea dot to spread sufficiently, but different pastes will have different results
