Windows won't boot

Ok keep in mind I'm very computer retarded. Had a power outage and upon restarting I just blue screen when windows tries to start. Cannot run in safe mode or install another version of windows. I don't have any backups so I would like to fix this without wiping harddrive if at all possible. Using windows xp and the pc seems fine, excluding the HDD. Sorry for any typos and such, posting off of psp .

You can try booting off the XP DVD and running the repair utility, but most likely something was fried by the power outage. If you can afford it, you should really get a UPS.

Just bought a UPS from Walmart.com for about 90$. This is after my HDD was fried in a power trip and I spent 200 bucks for a new one with a windows re-install. Should have just spent the $90 beforehand, fffffffffffff.

after you get a new hdd, just plug in your fried hdd as a secondary drive and you should be able to access anything that wasn't stored on the fried sectors.

It's possible your BIOS got reset. Change your HD mode to IDE and see if that works, if it doesn't; change it to AHCI. Normally results in a BSOD on start up when this setting is messed up.
